Upgrading to 1903 took me nearly 9 hours on my system. I upgraded via the Windows settings panel. I am running an i7 gen 7 64 bit cpu with 8GB of RAM. Over 8 of those hours was spent at 88% where it seemed to be 'stuck' After just over 8 hours @88% I finally began to see progress. From that point installation completed in under 10 minutes. I checked the settings upgrade info panel and it informed me that the 1903 install was successful. It seems patience is key with the 1903 feature install. I would suggest the methods advised by @Bree in this thread using an iso image would most likely be more efficient (and safer) than allowing Windows to do the update itself.

I just encountered an "update required notice" on my fairly newly homebuilt desktop running WIN 10 Home 1803. It wanted me to update to 1903 and merely asked me to select a time to do so. It appeared since I could select "Now" that the download was already sitting on my PC just waiting for an install command., so I selected now.

It took 7 minutes on an I7-8700k with 16Gb memory and 250Gb Samsung SSD. All went fine.

Glad to hear that all went smoothly.

Seems you missed watching the slow time-consuming processes that led up to it being ready to finish the install, the earlier stages I described in post #1. But they would have been going on in the background for some hours (possibly days if it wasn't turned on very often) before it announced it was ready to to do the update. You may have noticed it was running a bit slower than usual.

Probably for the best, you would have been bored stiff (as I was) if you had know what was going on and watched its progress

Windows update can be a slow way to get 1903, but at least it's designed to work in the background and not get in the way of you using your PC. At least, not until it asks you to do that restart.
