    Win10 update fails

    Product: Pavilion Desktop 590-p0xxx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

    Win10 pro 64 1809 build 17763.503

    KB5403327 won't install.

Every day the PC settings downloads and tries to install this update and fails each time requiring a reboot..

Otherwise the desktop works fine' but it's getting tiresome.

    thanks

Are you sure that KB5403327 is the correct KB number? The only other reference I can find anywhere is your posting to the HP forums on the same topic. I can't find any reference to that KB number in Google, Bing, or the Microsoft Update Catalog.

That said, you could try the Microsoft "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter tool located here:

    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...owhide.diagcab

If it cannot identify a problem, you can use it to stop Windows from trying to install the update repeatedly, but it would still be nice to know what that update is to see if it is really needed.

Okay, you currently have cumualtive updates installed through May 14th. The cumulative update you are having difficulties with is the June 11 update.

Try blocking that one as noted, and see if when you check for updates you are offered KB4501371 (the June 18th update).

You can also obtain that update here manually:

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=KB4501371

Also, be aware that the update that you are having difficulty with requires the Servicing Stack Update (KB4504369) from June 11 as a prerequisite. Windows update should offer it to you automatically, but you can also download and install it from here:

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=KB4504369

I'll check for the stack but each time I check for updates the 3327 is the only one showing. I'll try downloading the 1371 and see what happens.

    - - - Updated - - -

Stack shows installed in windows updates but not in update history.
    Downloaded 1371..install failed.
Downloaded a fresh copy of 3327 install failed.

My only concern with these updates was maybe better security. If they only involved features, I can wait.

Somedays I wish I was back with Mosaic and Dos and 300 baud modems. More peaceful then.

I do appreciate your help.thanks again

What I really meant was to open up the Event Viewer application and take a look in there at the Windows System log like this...

Right click on Start, then select Event Viewer:

    Win10 update fails-image1.jpg

From there, expand Windows Logs and then select System

    Win10 update fails-image2.jpg

Look at the time where the update failed to install to see if anything is getting logged. In addition to the System log, make sure that you also check the other logs (Setup, Application, Security).

If you are not sure when the attempted update was, then try to let it install the update again, noting the time, then open the Event Viewer.
