    Windows Updates stuck at 0%

Hi all, I started having this issue recently. I ran windows update and all downloads were stuck at 0%. Hence I downloaded the 1903 update manually from the Microsoft website.

After the update was installed, I tried running windows update again. However, all updates are stuck at 0% and refuse to download.

I have tried so many “solutions” from online - restarting the services, deleting softwaredistribution, disabling firewall, etc. , but nothing seems to help. Every time I check for updates, the list of updates comes out and everything is stuck at 0%.

I’m at my wits end now, my internet works just fine and everything else seems to be working fine as well, except for this annoying issue. I do notice that when I start the update, the download folder in softwaredistribution populated with folders and files inside, but it does not grow beyond a few hundred kb.

    Please help me!

Welcome to the forum. What updates does it find straight after there should be about 3 including flash. Its a bit of a pain but it try to be nice and doesnt download if your working. Close all other programs and give it 10 mins does it then start? The setting in active hours can also effect it. On the new system it will download security definitions then tell you more updates are there and ask if you want to download

There is a definition update for Windows Defender, security update for Flash, cumulative update for NET framework, security update for Visual C++, and a couple of updates for Microsoft Office.

I don’t believe it’s active hours as I’ve been tinkering with it outside active hours. Also left it overnight to download etc but still nothing.

Thanks for the replies. Now, after many hours of being stuck at 0%, the updates are failing with error 0x80d02002.

Have you run the Windows Update Troubleshooter? (E.g. via Settings). Please do so and post the result.

Have you followed the tutorial I posted?

    See also Solution 2:
[Fix] Windows Update Error 0x80d02002 in Windows 10 >> Winhelponline

    Also please run
    SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command or powershell prompt and report the result.

If all the above is ok:
Perform a clean boot and try updating again.

    Thanks.

Reset Windows BAT did not work.

    Neither did solution 2.

SFC /SCANNOW gives "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

It would appear that the updates actually download, but extremely slow. I realised one of the updates (Some Microsoft Office update) managed to install, after many hours. Sometimes some downloads also progress to various percentages, then just sit there for hours without moving.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my internet. I have tried disabling firewall, but nothing seems to work. It seems like the downloads go into some hibernation state and then wake up every few hours for that little progress, then go back to sleep.

Sounds more like a problem connecting to the MS WU servers.

What might be the issue preventing my pc from connecting to the servers?

If you search on this topic, there seem no easy answers. Are you using a proxy? A VPN? Could security software be affecting it?

Have you considered DNS related issues? Change your DNS e.g. DNSjumper..
