    Win10 pro update problem

    1809 17763.503
    error (0x80240032)
    HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0xxx
When I try to do an update the error above shows.
However, it first shows that the security update was actually made but when I hit update again, the error shows each time.
I have the latest updates HP has listed.

    thanks

Hello, how are you attempting the update? Are you referring to a feature update (build) or a routine Windows Update?

    Please try:
    - the Windows Update troubleshooter (available e.g. in Settings)
    - resetting WU
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    Thank you..
    I'm using the settings updater.
I did the troubleshooting and it went through the process saying it found the problem and corrected and I should try it again.
    Still doesn't work.
I downloaded the update bat file and ran it a few times..restarting each time after.
Still nothing except I see it removed the previous security updates.

The tool to reset clears data files, corrects the state of various files and clears the history - it does NOT remove the updates. If you look in the Control Panel, View Installed Updates, they are still there.

If you 'edit' the bat file you can see what it does.

I am now assuming that you are saying that Windows Update is not working correctly.

Having done the above, you are left with an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.
For that you need an 1809 iso file, freely downloadable.

Make sure you have, say 30Gb spare on C:
Rt click it, Mount it, run setup.exe from the newly created drive.
As ever, before any major change, create or update your disk image (Macrium Reflect - free + external disk for image files). This forum repeatedly recommends the routine use of disk imaging to give you a way back when things go badly wrong.

    dalchina....thank you..
Your info turned on some lights.

As I was getting ready to do the install upgrade, an obscure thought blinked and said try scf /scannow

Bingo...I ran it, told me it repaired the problem and after a reboot, all is well.

Great- I suppose I should have suggested that... glad it was easier rather than harder.

Now make sure you've created a new base disk image (Macrium reflect) to consolidate things.
