All I got on another Forum concerning the same question is the threat of Armageddon if I did not do a back-up, preferably an image back-up. Like 90% of users, I am unable to do this time consuming specialised task and have never done so in my 14 years PC experience.
    Again - thank you all

Steve, I never ever knew over my 14 years that Windows had a sandbox !
Cherokee, I'm not going to tell you your computer will blow up if you don't back up before doing a Windows Update, but I will tell you there's always a first time.

What I really want to tell you is that there's a free version of Macrium Reflect (macrium.com) that will do a great image backup. Just about everyone on TenForums uses either the free version or the paid version. External hard drives are getting less expensive and can be attached via USB. An image backup is no longer as involved as your father's image backup was. If I can do it, just about anyone can . . . once set up, it works in the background.

I don't remember exactly when Sandbox became available, but it's relatively new in Windows 10.

I can understand why you may not feel able to do a backup. But I do make image backups, and Macrium makes it a simple task, should you feel it is possible for you.

It's a new feature in 1903 Pro, and possible to use in 1903 Home if you know how...

Bree - Windows sandbox is no use to me, I use Sandboxie and have done for 10 -12 years.

Yes, but with 1903 there will be a built-in sandbox you may need to be aware of (if only to make sure you don't turn it on in case it conflicts with your Sanboxie).

This is my final conclusion on the Windows 10 1903 May 2019 Feature Update issue.

There have been many users reporting trouble updating to 1903, varying from minor malfunctions, graphics, audio, third party programs etc, to major ones, where attempted traumatic restore to Windows 1809 has been necessary. Some downloadings and installations have stuck indefinitely, forcing the users to crash their PC's and face the consequences.

There is no rush to have 1903, so why take unnecessary risks. There is no reason at all except curiosity and as we all know "curiosity killed the cat".

Let 1903 remain on the shelf for 3 months, more, or even to the end of 1809 service life on May 12, 2020. Nothing is lost.
While 1809 is working to perfection, stay with it - If it 'aint broke, don't fix it.

It is widely recommended that an image back-up is made of your existing system before installing 1903.
Macrium Reflect is highly praised for this task.

You are in 1809 And talk about risks. I bypassed 1809 cause of data losses.

The release of Windows 10 version 1903 Feature Update is a joke and even more so
for those who have had a traumatic experience installing it - they are not laughing.
Microsoft intend to release version 1909 in October and off we go again with more trouble.
As version 1809 is running perfectly, give 1903 a bypass - forget it !

Again I will wait 3 months before considering installing it.
With the service life of 1809 being May 12, 2020, I have no need to walk in minefields.

The equation concerning Windows major Feature Updates comprises Information + Judgement.
Information is gained by doing your homework from Forums and Web surfing etc.

Judgement is restricted solely to each individual user and nobody else.

Nothing is lost by waiting until a newly released Feature Update becomes more stable with time.
Waiting 2 - 3 months should be adequate.

It is a more than sensible approach regarding Feature Updates than to install a newly released
Feature Update impulsively and inherit unwelcome and sometimes serious problems.

That's a sensible cautious approach. You can wait (almost) as long as you want. The Feature Update will finally install automatically when your current version is at or near the end of its supported life. That's May 12, 2020 for 1809.[/QUOTE]
Thank you so much, I want to wait at least 6 months before upgrading, Excellent information :)

I agree. I normally delay feature updates by 6 months to allow time for the early adopters to report bugs as beta testers. MS might do a better job if they supplied just one feature update a year to give them a fighting chance of doing the job properly.

Microsoft installed version 1903 automatically at gone 12.00 (midnight) on 29 August.
It took over 4 hours from "Getting things ready" to completion.
Everything works fine with no hiccups as far as I can see so far.
