    Windows 10 Feature Update Version 1903 - May 2019

This has been placed on my Windows update as an optional "install when you are ready" item, separate from regular windows updates. I will wait until it is officially issued on regular updates, due to the entire replacement of version 1809 and impact of the update. It takes a long time to download and install with several restarts.
Compatibility with browsers and other programs is a factor.

    Question ?
Has anybody installed this new windows version ?
How long did the install take ?
Is it working flawlessly or are there problems with any data, files, features and browser performance etc. ?

I have been told that Firefox and Sandboxie have problems.

If you have been notified by WU that its ready to upgrade your system, then your system is acceptable to support 1903. However I would perform a image backup before proceeding. You never know.

Quite a few people have it installed, its working on all 3 of my systems. Installation time is really dependent on your internet speed, CPU speed and drive speeds. My tablet took just over an hour, but it has pretty slow CPU and fast SSD.

I have not noticed any issues between Firefox and Sandbox. I have both running on my system and have not seen any issue.

Hi Cherokee, from my point of view, W10 1903 is running great. And best of all, Sandboxie and Firefox are working without any issue. Everything I do with the computer, I do it sandboxed. The only time I am not using SBIE is when the computer is idle or I am doing updates, 2 weeks have gone by since I updated to W10 1903, and still havent found an error related to SBIE and/or Firefox.

Read this thread about SBIE in W10 1903
Sandboxie Beta 5.31.1, fixes downloadi issue in W10 build 18362 (1903)

Make sure to install SBIE 5.31.1, you can run it over the top of the version you are using now. This is the SBIE version you need for W10 1903. Get the link to the installer for 5.31.1 from the thread I linked above.

Those two replies are superbly informative and give me a lot more confidence than I had.

For personal reasons I am unable to prepare an image back-up, for me it is just not possible and this is what my main concern is. If anything goes wrong and 1903 gives operational problems or the install gets stuck on installation e.g never finishes and I have to crash it against the warning - do not shut down your computer, I will be in serious trouble.

Whilst I would love to go ahead and install 1903 in harmony with your positive comments, these are my worries and why I intend waiting longer.

Bo, I know you from years ago I think on the Sandboxie Forum but maybe Wilders, where you helped me many, many times, not under this username though. Sandboxie version 5.31.1 is a Beta version and not yet fully released. I have version 5.30 and my Windows 10 is version 1809.

This is how Microsoft deliver Feature Updates from now on. In Home you used to have no option but to accept the next windows version as soon as it was deemed ready for your system, while in Pro you could defer Feature Updates. From now on in both Home and Pro when windows update thinks your system is ready for the update you will be told it's available, but it's entirely up to you if/when you want to 'download and install now'.

Whilst I would love to go ahead and install 1903 ... these are my worries and why I intend waiting longer.
That's a sensible cautious approach. You can wait (almost) as long as you want. The Feature Update will finally install automatically when your current version is at or near the end of its supported life. That's May 12, 2020 for 1809.

Another superb reply Bree which helps me enormously - many thanks.

Hi Cherokee. As long as you stay on 1809, you are fine with SBIE 5.30, but if you move on to 1903, you should update to beta 5.31.1. Version 5.30, works in 1903 but with 5.30 you wont be able to recover files easily out of the sandbox. There is a conflict between W10 1903 and SBIE 5.30 that breaks recovering files out of the sandbox.

Regarding Sandboxie betas, I been using them forever. In my opinion, they are more stable than the stable. Thats how it has always been. Dont think when you install one of this betas, you are installing shaky software. If there was a major issue between 5.31.1 and 1903, I would know about it and would have experienced the issue. From my perspective, in my computers (W10/W7), the interaction between 5.31.1 and Windows is flawless. Also, to help you decide on what to do, you should know, is going to take a while before the next stable version is released, is not going to be soon.

The very positive replies on this issue have provided me with all the information I need to make my decision.
I will keep my Windows 1809 until such time as it has had sufficient exposure with users to be thoroughly cleared of any problems.

Having had a new HP AIO desk top computer in December last, which is working perfect, I have no wish to invite any trouble yet a while.
I thank you all for such practical and helpful information.

All I got on another Forum concerning the same question is the threat of Armageddon if I did not do a back-up, preferably an image back-up. Like 90% of users, I am unable to do this time consuming specialised task and have never done so in my 14 years PC experience.
    Again - thank you all

Over time, 1903 will receive regular updates just as 1809 will.
Thus, debugging is a function of time and feedback.

I can understand why you may not feel able to do a backup. But I do make image backups, and Macrium makes it a simple task, should you feel it is possible for you.

It's a new feature in 1903 Pro, and possible to use in 1903 Home if you know how...
