    cant activate MY INSTALL


    My motherboard just stopped WORKING.....anyways i bought another one.although not a great one its the ASROCK 970m pro3. i setup the mobo booted into windows. got errors so i immediately remembered from long ago the pain it was to try and delete old drivers etc..i wanted to save some time and just download media making software to make a bootable dvd.i did it this way because i had no dvd to install,.i had bought it online and i was just given the proper product key.
    now when i installed i told it that i didnt have a key at that time i would just enter it later.
    well i been trying to enter the activation key i got from last install. not thinking of course it wouldnt match...thats where i am at now. i get an error when i try to activate my install. any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum. Did you login with a MS account on the old one and the new one?

    i log in with my old user name like i always did. but when i was installing it ,it asked me for the product key i think is what it said, i told it i would put it in later . so i just continued installing . now it says it cant activate.

    Did you install the same edition as the one that was installed and activated on the other motherboard? If the editions, Home, Pro, etc don't match, the product codre won't work. You can't use a Home key to activate Pro for example.

    Also what key did you use? I ask because if it was activated with a Digital Licence it would be issued a generic key. A lot of key finders will only find that generic key. They don't find the original key used to first activate it. The generic key will not work on a device that does not already have a digital license, which your replacement motherboard won't have.
