Setting update preferences in windows 1903

Hi there

I've just done the update to windows 10 (Pro) 1903

I went to the updates options to see what options i have, and so far as i can tell the controls for targeted updates, and the ability to defer an update for a specified amount of days has gone.

I'm aware that i can pause updates for a number of days, but this is not the same as being able to defer updates for a set period.

Is this option now gone ?

No, it's still there in 1903 Pro. Features Updates can be deferred for up to 365 days and Quality updates (cumulative updates) for up to 30 days.



What has gone is the distinction between Semi-Annual Channel and Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) as Microsoft are dropping this terminology going forwards.

That's odd, it's just not showing in mine.

It could be because I did an in-place update, I will try a clean install see if that makes it appear. It gives me the 'home' version options but is showing as Pro in the activation section.

That is odd. My screenshot above was from an in-place upgrade of 1809 Pro to 1903 Pro so it should be there for you too. It may be worth checking Group Policy to see if anything there has disabled the defer options.

Yep 365 is missing for me too
Targeted and non targeted too are gone with the wind.

Only difference I see besides those is 1-30 days shows calendar dates big whoop.

That, at least, is by design. Microsoft no longer use those terms, starting with 1903. See...

I did a clean install and got the options to defer upgrades as per 1809

It could have been one of two things in my opinion.

1) It has a home license in the BIOS even though it was doing a Pro to Pro upgrade it kind of got mistaken somehow, this is least likely as it showed 'Pro' in the activation section.

2) There was updates waiting to be completed and defer options disappeared ? (this once happened to me in 1809) Though I did check there didn't seem to be anything waiting to update.

No, not that. As it happens the Pro machine in my screenshot earlier has a Home key in its bios.

No, neither of those - there's a third way. I have recreated the problem and it seems to occur if you had set a non-zero number of day to defer features updates before you did the upgrade to 1903. Here is one I 'broke' just now by setting Defer Features Updates to 7 days then upgrading to 1903. The Defer Features updates option has gone AWOL. The defer quality updates is still there, but then I left that set at zero days.
