Two down, one to go. Working like a charm. And yes, both systems had the settings other than the Default Zero.

Well third time was not the charm. This one is still not showing the "chose when updates are installed" settings. The only difference I can think of is the two that it worked on had received the 1903 upgrade thru Windows Update while the one that didn't was upgraded via the ISO downloaded via the MCT.

Mine was a update through ISO, mounted. So that is not cause that fix didn't work.

Can you go back to 1809, preferably with a System Image, set to zero days and retry. Guess you could use Windows tools to revert but not my first choice.

If you wish to wait a while I will let you know how it goes.

I had fixed mine but then installed software and drivers for my Intel AC7260. To say it didn't go well is an understatement. BSOD's and unable to uninstall.

So I pulled out my Macrium and restored to 1809. Set the defer days to zero and I'm updating again, with a mounted ISO.

I don't have a backup image for that system as it's essentially a test system for situations like this. I mainly want to figure out how to fix it as I'm sure I will run into it in the near future on systems people bring to me to fix.

Once I did the Repair Install it disabled the option to revert back to 1809 from within Windows. Windows Restore seems to have removed all of the old restore points so that isn't an option either. I'm not in a big hurry. I can wait until another option comes along.

Thanks for all of the help tho. It is much appreciated.

Just saw your post. Do you use Macrium? Free and reliable. Worth the storage.

So I went back to 1809, set defer days to zero and re-installed update. Success.

This might sound silly, run repair again.

Yes I do use Macrium on regular systems. But for a test system like this one that only has a few programs installed it isn't really worth it. I can do a clean install on it in about the same time as restoring from a backup. And yes, I did try a second Repair Install.

At this point it's a learning experience. I'll eventually figure out what is causing it and fix it. That's half the fun of computing.

    Good luck.

I image all devices, even my experimental units. Makes me braver. ( or reckless )

I use Macrium, best free program out there. They are a very generous bunch.
Makes me experiment in ways I would never dare do otherwise, installing windows , settings , drivers, programs is no longer the two hour job it was under windows 98 !! It takes me all day now..lol

I went into GPO and changed the "Select when Preview Builds and Feature Updates are received" and "Select when Quality Updates are received" settings Windows Update for Business from not configured to Enabled. Ran gpupdate /force and now the two settings appear under Advanced Options. Unfortunately I get the red Some settings are managed by your organization notation and the settings are greyed out so you can't change them. Not sure what to do next to resolve this as I've never really worked with GPO.

Two steps forward and one step backwards.

I think I'm making some progress. All of the systems I've updated to 1903 have the "choose when updates are installed" option disappear within a few minutes of setting either option to anything other than 0. Another Repair install seems to bring the settings back but if I leave the settings to anything other than 0 they will disappear again. If I leave them at 0 they are still there after 24 hours (the longest I've gone so far with all of the Repair installs I've been doing the past few days).

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour or even checked to see if the option is still there after changing the settings?

Also, I've been having better luck with the ISOs from the Heidoc.net downloader than from the ones from the MS downloader.
