Botched updates of windows update in the list

I"m running Windows 10 -1809 - 64 bit on my Acer Nitro 5 laptop. I'm recently getting failed installation of windows update. Troubleshooting the windows update doesn't find any error, neither does sfc /scannow command in administrator command prompt. I also restarted my laptop several times but the issue persists. The dates seen in the windows updates are weird. My time zone is set to automatic and I use network provided time. I never change my time zone. I bought my laptop in March 2019, and always keep my drivers and windows update. What exactly is going wrong with windows update?

    1) Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums | Tutorials
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

    2) The error code that was displayed was:
    Code:
    0x800703e3
    3) This error code has an hresult error message of:
    Code:
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.
    4) See if any of these steps ave an impact:

    5) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    6) sfc /scannow

    7) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    8) chkdsk /scan

    9) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    10) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)

    11) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

How to perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts | Tutorials

    12) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)

The above troubleshooting steps are to check the component store and to perform updates while in clean boot.

If the above steps fail these are some additional options:

    a) Manually download updates directly from the Microsoft catalog:
    Microsoft Update Catalog

    b) Update Dell drivers directly from the Acer website.

    c) Update any remaining drivers from the component manufacturer websites:

What's interesting is that it's just driver updates failing.

How to Fix Hyper-V Error 0x800703E3: "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."
Are you using a Virtual Machine?

    • The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open. ( 0x800704C8 )
    • Failed to Power On with Error 'The specified network resource or device is no longer available.' (0x80070037)
    • The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. (0x800703E3)

The likely cause is antivirus software that is installed in the parent partition and the real-time scanning component is configured to monitor the Hyper-V virtual machine files.

I am not using virtual machine. I never installed any virtual machine software on this laptop. Moreover, there is one and only user account which logs in this laptop i.e. of me, an admin account solo.

Ok in that case, I would suggest you visit the link above as they go into much more detail about what to do, which I'll quote over here.

Hi FT. I"m Greg, an installation specialist, 9 year Windows MVP and Independent Advisor, here to help you.

    Display driver:

Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS, network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here:http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...
or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...
or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

    Windows Updates Fixes:

Most Updates will sort themselves out in a few days so I'd wait to see. If not then here are steps you can take:

    1) There is a new guided walk-through from Microsoft for repairing Windows Update that leads up to resetting components if necessary:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/.... Try running that first.

    2) If that fails try manually resetting Windows Update Service:

Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvc
    net stop bits
    net stop msiserver
    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if Windows Updates works then

    3) You can also install the Updates manually that fail to install which are logged at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History, and then search for those to download and install from this Catalog: http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...

    4) If they continue to fail and interfere, then you can block them using one of these methods: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent...

    5) What I'd do at this point if you haven't yet is install latest Version 1809 by installing Media Creation Tool from this link and choose Upgrade This PC Now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

This is the most stable way to change to the newer version and because it reinstalls WIndows while keeping your files and programs in place, fixes most problems. It also brings all Windows Updates to date.

If there are any hurdles during install then these steps can overcome them: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

    6) If problems with Updates have become chronic and especially if you have other performance problems, be aware that what we have found is that in Windows 10 everything depends on the quality of the underlying install, the same reason enthusiasts have never run Factory or Upgrade installs because they know there would be endless issues.

For example there have been zero return problems by those who follow the gold standard Clean Install here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is better and faster than any previous version of Windows, and a better install than any amount of money could buy. So when you get time I'd study over that to see if it's something I can help you do.

There is also an automated Fresh Start that reinstalls Windows while shedding factory bloatware that can cause issues and affect performance, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

If you receive a popup asking if this solved your problem please ignore it, as it will remove my ability to help you and others may also not help. Please wait until after the issue is resolved to answer the popup or mark your question answered to help others.

I'm thinking of using display driver uninstaller in safe mode,

then I install intel drivers, reboot.

    reboot again in safe mode

    uninstall NVIDIA drivers, reboot.

Then I install intel drivers, reboot.

Then I install NVIDIA drivers, reboot.

    Any comments?

Personally, I'd go for this. It's probably the fastest fix for you.

I'm already running 1809 version. Would updating through ISO file help?
