Update with amd64 installing on an Intel PC?

Why is Windows update installing this

    Feature update to windows 10, version 1809 amd64 2019-04

on a PC with an Intel CPU? What's in this update? I've been unable to find anything about it but have found posts about the previous 2019-03 release having issues with failing to install.

PS it failed to install with Error code 0x80070003. If it's for AMD systems, then duhhhh. Good reason why it would fail to install.

amd64 refers to the instruction set the processor runs, not the manufacturer of the processor. Intel 64-bit CPUs run the amd64 instruction set.

What he said, AMD was the first to license / patent etc the 64 bit instruction set. They got to name it, and get to collect licensing fees for its use.

would be nice if they would have given more info on the title of the update so as to not scare Intel users, this update will install but it takes time and

I suggest closing all other apps and security that is not needed while it is installing and WAIT, it will take an extended amount of time, it took around 2 hours on my system and mine is not a potato.

After another go-round with Windows Update, that one installed. Stupid Windows Update was attempting to install this one before it installed a required prerequisite update.

Yesterday for my Aunt I setup a brand new Dell that came out of the box with 10 x64 Home 1809. Microsoft has really screwed things up, it couldn't contact the activation servers until I ran Windows Update FOUR TIMES to get all the latest updates. A brand new OEM box ought to self activate the instant it touches the internet after getting all the user/owner info entered.

In the old days with Windows 7 etc and OEM-SLP activation. The OEM PC came pre-activated and didn't activate online. It activated against the SLIC table in the BIOS. Now its an OEM Embeded key but they have to activate online and get a Digital License. The only Windows 10 PC's that don't get a DL are Volume Licensed Corporate PC's.
