Why do I still only have version 1803?

I have 3 desktops and one laptop that all run on Windows 10 1803.I am amazed that none of them have yet been updated to 1809.
They install all fine regular updates.Even if I search for new updates manually, I am not notified of version 1809.
I know it is possible with a manual download, but why is there currently no update in the normal way.The new 1903 must soon be available!

    Cheers

Hi, noted you have Pro - have you deferred feature updates?

This is explained quite often here-
    1. if you look at the relevant article in the News section on 1809 release, it is not offered by WU to customers with potentially problematic PCs
    2. Roll-out has been very slow after MS bungled and delayed it.
    3. A manual WU scan may mean you are offered it. (Noted you've tried that).

That's all based on your WU working normally, of course, which you say is the case.

You can completely skip a build- but I suggest not accepting a build at least until the first major update following its release is available.

After the 'false start' and the problems it caused, MS have been very slow to roll out 1809. You, along with 71.6% of the world's PCs haven't yet seen the Features Update to 1809. That is nothing to worry about, 1803 will continue to get all the latest security fixes.

Out of more than 100,000 PCs surveyed, only 21.2% run the October Update. While this number is almost double of what we've seen last month, it's still far away from the dominating April 2018 Update (71.6%).

Thank you so much for your interest in my problem.
It was just the answer I needed.

Thanks again for your help and nice information

@ReneM, you may like to know that the latest AdDuplex figures now say that a third of the world's PCs are still on 1803 at the end of March.

...it looks more and more likely that Microsoft seems to be giving up on it in favor of upgrading users straight to the next version.

I couldn't wait any longer. Manually installed 1809 on all my machines today.
    It went completely smoothly.

If I read your link correctly, then 2/3 is still in 1803 - am I wrong?

Thank you again for your help and very, very good information

I did that right away last Oct when it came out w/Download folder delete issue I did two others at the same time w/o issue. 3 other home devices manually Upgraded and let two decide on it's own, as a test. One did it couple months ago, the other downloaded and installed 1809 on it's own just last week, just fine. I have 2 others that I support that, like yours, have not upgraded yet and recommended against manually checking so we can wait for 1903 and skip, since "If it's not broken ..." applies.

2/3 still on 1803 would surprise me but I think MS was just overly conservative after the botched rollout, that's all. As long as you image and/or backup beforehand, no harm testing manual Update from an ISO. Cheers

There's not a lot new in 1809, but significant changes are expected in 1903. It's probably for the best to be on 1809, if you were still on 1803 you may have been forced into accepting 1903 earlier than you'd wish.

No, you are reading it correctly. I have a test machine I'm leaving on 1803 and deliberately avoiding a manual check for updates. I've had it running like that 24/7 for the past month, so far it remains firmly in the 2/3 majority. It will be interesting to see what (if anything) it gets offered once 1903 is released.

Unfortunately, something always happens with new Windows updates.
After the installation of 1809 I receive a myriad of messages in the Event log.
This time it is all about ID 1534 User Profile Service, which I have never seen before.
Why should it be that way every time?

Have you installed all cumulative updates ? I do not see that entry in Event Viewer. It was an older issue with 1809, here's a suggested workaround, if it bothers you - https://www.ghacks.net/2018/12/29/wi...1534-warnings/
