Why are some updates silent and others not?

First of all I have automatic update in Group Policy set to notify for download (option 2). I have noticed that some updates like definition updates for defender antivirus gets updated without any notification. I know this because when I open up Reliability Monitor I can see anything that was updated. Other times I get a notification saying I need updates and the only thing listed might be a definition update and sometimes other things. Then I just click on the notification see what needs to be updated and all is good. So why are some definition updates being installed silently?

I remember back in the XP days that every update that was offered had to be listed for my approval for it to install. I am the one that would approve the update to install or not. But so much time has passed and technology has changed so much as of today that I don't even know, nor really care, which updates get installed by Windows anymore. There is so many hidden things that run in the background of the computer that many people don't know about. I used to look at all the svchost.exe files in Task Manager and try to figure out what all these are, so I can disable a bunch that have nothing to do with anything. But I've eventually reached the point in my life where I just don't even care anymore. Microsoft will always have many different things running in the background, that it's pointless to try to remove them. Because also, they will re-enable themselves anyways in the future. I've noticed that fact when I initially installed Windows 10.

So ... honestly... who cares. It saves you a lot of stress on wanting to have your computer run the way that you want it to.
