    Where are Updates Stored?

I want to add all the updates from my current system to an image I'm creating with MSMG Tolkit. Where would I find the *.exe files on my PC?

I'm trying to keep the updates from adding back the features I remove.

Updates are installed then, after a while, discarded. There is no set of exe files to copy. Their download folders are within C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution but their layout within these folders is not straightforward.

You can put together a set of the latest Cumulative update, latest Flash player update, latest MRT version, latest Windows defender definitions update from the MS update catalog & WD defs but you would also need to go through your list of installed updates [Control panel, Progs & features, Installed updates] to see if there is anything else you need such as .Net framework updates. You should also check for any hardware drivers that you need.

Trying to stop Windows from adding back bits that you have removed is like using blotting paper to hold back the tide.

I have now seen another, seemingly-related thread of yours.

I am not sure what fault conditions you are trying to protect yourself from. Most problems can be overcome by making system images & a boot USB with an imaging facility like Macrium reflect.

I think I'm on the right track by converting the install.esd to install.wim since the media creation tool supposedly downloads the latest version of windows with all the updates included.

But you're right about trying to stop the tide, I feel like a teenager with acne trying to stop these apps from coming back.

"the latest version of windows with all the updates included" - you will also need the updates issued since the ISO was compiled
[list as in my first post].

I have Windows update disabled so I manually download all updates and back them up with the ISO & a full set of third-party hardware drivers. I will probably never have to use them because I rely mainly on my frequent system images.

I have not had the problem of re-appearing apps since about version 1703.

Great idea, I had to manually apply 1809 and will do the same going forward. Thanks for the advice.
