Disable win 10 update it re-enabled itself?

Using Win 10 Pro 1809, if i go into services, windows update, properties, startup type set to disabled. It seems to re-enable itself later on if not after a reboot.

How does one stop it? I have reason to believe it is hard locking up my PC. it's listed in the error log around the time my PC is locking up.

    Thanks for the help.

Hi, first, you should not be experiencing such a problem. If you are, it's indicative of a problem that needs fixing. Selecting Windows services and disabling them cannot be recommended unless you know the consequences exactly and precisely.

It is likely that MS attempts to ensure people are not disabling Windows Update by such means.

Perhaps you could explain your symptom in detail, what you see happen and what you're doing at that time. It could be useful to keep the task manager open so you can e.g. take a photo of your screen when Windows is not functioning.

If you do a clean boot, do you see this problem occur?

I have done a clean installation of windows and the problem still happens.

The pc will hard lock randomly only way to get out of it is pull the plug. The pc runs 24/7 running security software for monitoring cameras.

I built the pc myself all new hardware. RAM settings are to spec.

In the windows error logs windows update happens just before the hard lock.

Did this only happen after you installed programs and configured it- which I guess you must have given its use?
Or are you saying you see this after newly installing Win 10, with no programs installed?

Noted your comment about Windows Update starting.
If it's a recently built custom PC you may need to do some stress tests to establish confidence.

In general I would want to be able to distinguish between:
    - does it freeze with a clean installation (no extra programs)
    - hardware issues
    - issues related to installed programs

That said, what is your Windows build? (Windows key + R, winver).
Please post a screenshot of your Update History.

Please post a screenshot of the logs you are viewing. Thanks.

Please run (from an admin command or Powershell prompt)
    chkdsk C: /scan
    and report the results.

    If ok, please run
    and report the results.

Please also post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard (or similar) - not Disk Management

    Win version was posted above.

I did not stress test it since nothing is over clocked and running at stock speed. Unlike on my gaming pc.

The lockup happens with the software installed have not tried it without, trouble is it can happen once the pc has been on for 24 hours or 7 days or more later.

I think it’s a hardware issue had the same software running on another pc I built for 5 years with no issues.

Impossible to say really, though that's interesting. You're running with a different Windows edition, different drivers- is the software definitely rated for win 10 compatibility?

Please try after a clean boot- whilst that may well leave drivers running from installed software, it's a start.

'1809' is generic - there are updates which change the build number shown by winver.

In the event log i have a few of these. Win system logs.

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} to the user SERVER\David SID (S-1-5-21-2928931611-2778988880-1295525486-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Hi, you'd need to look at the time stamp to see if there's any correlation with your system freezing. Quite often freezes- by their nature- leave no trace.

    Please try
    a. Safe Mode
    b. Clean boot

    - both for 'long enough' to see if there is any recurrence

It locked up again logs show nothing about it expect the error from me pulling the plug. It was on for 1 day 17 hours last time it was on for 7 days 3 hours.

BTW what do you mean by clean boot? Windows with no apps installed? I only use two.

Here the point is to apply stress to try to find weaknesses- which you evidently have. Nothing to do with overclocking whatsoever, although reassuring that it's not being run out of spec.

Here's just one tool - there are a number around, doing different things. You can search for recommendations- I have no special knowledge here.

    RAM tests- tutorial avaliable.
