    Stop Win-10 from updating

I'm the type of user that likes to keep web pages open and un-saved text on my desktop. These are left open only for a day and then saved or deleted at day's end. I have the Windows update set to Ask Me but it doesn't and goes ahead with a full update and reboot. It use to ask to reboot but doesn't do this either. How can I get this machine to do what I want?

Hi, first make use of Active Hours in Settings so you don't restart during a period up to 18 hrs a day.
Then make sure the bottom option is set

If you have Pro you have more options.

If you search the Tutorial section for e.g.
    Windows update

you can find tutorials such as
Turn On or Off Windows Update Restart Notifications in Windows 10 | Tutorials
Configure Auto-restart Required Notification for Updates in Windows 10 | Tutorials

I had all of those set to OFF. This is what I am asking...I have the settings turned to off yet Windows still updates and reboots on its own.

Look at my screenshot. To get the alert, it should be ON not OFF.

Likewise, Active Hours must be set on- the hours configured.

Oh, Sorry - understood now. Okay, set active hours broadly to 7am to 1am and Send Notice.

The hard thing with Home is being prepared for upgrades (feature updates).

As ever, routine regular disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free) helps, but unlike Pro you can't defer them- only block updates completely.

A member said feature updates and cumulative updates can be stopped by metered connection.

That may stop a good number, but MS states it will override that for critical updates. Brink has commented that MS has progressively made it harder for users to win here- hence the more complex script approach.
