Download Update For 1709 to 1809 And Install?

Using Windows Update to go from 1709 to 1809 the MS Surface I have at work first updates to 1803. This causes the box to delay feature updates to be grayed out. For details please see:

I have tried everything and can not get the box to clear so I can delay featured updates for 365 days. I have even compared the registry for Windows Update before and after the update and they are the same, but I still can not delay featured updates.

I want to restore a system image and then update straight from 1709 to 1809. Is there a KB that I can download and install 1809 and not have to go through Windows Update since every time I do Windows Update first installs 1803.

I updated three computers from 1709 last Friday and the only one that has this problem with delaying featured updates is this Surface tablet.

That sounds like I am just installing Windows build 1809 from an iso. This would just give me a new Windows install and then I would have to load all my programs from scratch like Microsoft Office and everything else I installed when I first got the PC.

I am asking if there is a KB update that I can download and install to 1709 and upgrade the existing build to 1809 and try that rather than going through the Windows Update service.

The answer dalchina gave is correct. The ISO download is what you want. An in-place upgrade will keep your files and installed apps, same as an upgrade via windows update. See this tutorial for more details of how an in-place upgrade works.

Because you are logged in, this is an upgrade procedure and keeps all progs and data and most settings.
b. Insert a bootable Win 10 medium, (DVD, bootable flash drive etc) and then boot your PC from that medium - not your internal disk. This boots your PC from the external medium, which can then be used to either
i. Start a clean install
or
ii Start a repair procedure or access advanced startup options.

Upgrading to 1809 with a USB stick solved the original problem.

I am now on 1809 and can delay feature updates for 365 days.
