    1809 update

    Hello,
Here we are nearly time for another update, but I have never received 1809 update. . I know there was a problem which I believe was fixed , but was the roll-out never resumed, or are we going direct to 1903 update?
My computer is only 2yrs old so still ok.
    Thank You
    Rayal

Hi, distribution via Windows update has been slow, If your PC is not subject to any of the blocks listed in the article about its re-release in the News section, which result in WU blocking your PC, then you can manually update at any time. Indeed, this is often a better option as you have control.

Iso's are freely downloadable and guides available in the Tutorial section.

As dalchina says, the rollout has resumed but MS seem to be taking a slow and cautious approach after the problems at first launch.

TBH, you're not missing much. There are no major changes from 1803 to 1809. Apart from Snip & Sketch (an improvement on the Snipping Tool) there's little new. You might as well stick with 1803 if it is working well. 1803 will continue to get all the latest security fixes in its cumulative updates.

By all accounts the next version, code name 19H1, probably to be 1903 on release, has some significant changes planned.

Doing a system image tonight in preparation for Patch Tuesday, in case WU actually gets something this time. I'm not holding my breath that 1809 will ever get to this system and I really don't care if it does. Just hoping that MS does a better job on the following version. Sort of off topic, but do folks create a recovery disk every time they do a system image? I've only been creating them after a new version is installed.

It is essential after a major version change (eg. 6 to 7). Less so after a minor version upgrade. My 7.1 recovery media successfully restored an image made by 7.2, for example.

Actually, just to see if it was possible (or would brick the PC) I made an image with 64-bit UEFI Macrium 7.2 then restored it by booting from a legacy 32-bit Macrium 7.1 usb.

    Disappointingly, it worked perfectly

It's always a good idea to make new media, just to be sure. But I wouldn't rush to do it for every minor update to 7.2, such as the one from v7.2.3954 to v7.2.3957. It's certainly not necessary after making each new system image.
