    Unable to connect to update.

When I try to update my Win10 computer, I get the following message:
"We couldn't connect to the internet service."
But that's the only internet connection I can't make. Email, web browser, wireless printer, etc, all work really well, so I know there is no problem with my internet connectivity. My Windows OS, including Windows Defender, has not been updated since 1/28/2019. Any ideas?

It already has for some of us.

The problem may even have been sorted at the MS end, but it seems to persist for some as a DNS lookup issue. Comcast users seem to be worst affected. If your ISP is Comcast, changing your DNS server has been reported as a fix.

    Hi,
I found Google Public DNS as a temporary workaround.
It fixed both update & The Store.

Unfortunately I do have Comcast internet. The fixes you all have suggested are above my my abilities. So, I guess I will just wait and see rather than screwing something up attempting a fix myself. Thanks to all for your help.

I respect your choice, very sensible if you don't feel confident in making the changes...

There are no OS updates you are missing, the next significant one is due out on 'Patch Tuesday', 12th February.

Defender definitions on the other hand are updated daily. If you want to keep up to date you can download them and install manually. You just download an executable file from Microsoft then run it. See here and scroll down to the 'Manually download and install the definitions' section.

Using your link, I downloaded the latest definitions, and they seem to have installed. Definition version: 1.285.576.0 with todays date.

    Thanks very much.

Congratulations. You're now actually more up to date than you would be with windows update. That one hasn't been put up on WU yet, it's still on 1.285.573.0.

    Great morale booster. LOL!

P.S. I just noticed that Windows update seems to be working normally now. After I manually updated Windows
defender, I immediately tried the Windows Update, and it worked, and has been working ever since. So, was it the manual update that got it working? Or did MS fix the problem? Either way, I'm happy.
