    keep getting this error. already did everything that people on the internet say to do but it isnt working

    We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet.

    Seems like MS is having problems. I've seen that too on a machine running 1803. Though 1809 seems to work (for now).

    I did a clean reinstall with 1809 earlier and was getting the same message. Tried the reinstall twice just to see, but I guess it's on Microsofts end.

    Well, my 1803 system that was showing that error can now connect and has just downloaded the latest updates, so seems to be working again.

    That's good to hear. Hopefully it's still working when I give it another shot in the morning.

    Do you have a VPN that you can connect to? That should fix it.

    For me, it turns out that Comcast's (USA based ISP) DNS can't connect to Microsoft's Update servers at all.

    When I input this in command prompt:
    nslookup ctldl.windowsupdate.com

    The output is:

    Non-authoritative answer: Name: ctldl.windowsupdate.com

    When I input an nslookup with another DNS, such as Google's:

    nslookup ctldl.windowsupdate.com 8.8.8.8

    The proper output is shown:

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: a767.dscg3.akamai.net
    Addresses: 2600:1407:1d::685b:a67b
    2600:1407:1d::685b:a68a
    2600:1407:1d::685b:a690
    72.21.81.240
    Aliases: ctldl.windowsupdate.com
    audownload.windowsupdate.nsatc.net
    au.download.windowsupdate.com.edgesuite.net

    Still unknown if this is a Comcast only problem, or a Microsoft problem, since there are people from the UK who have the same issue.
