Friday - Not Fixed: Many people are receiving the older update again that is failing again - so apparently it's not fixed.

I was having the same problem so I removed it from Apps and Features. It downloaded and installed KB4023057 okay. But the next day it dowloaded a later update of KB4023057. One is 2018-11 and the other is 2019-01. Both are labeled KB4023057. Is this normal? BTW, what does Remediation Service acutally do and it's creating hundreds of log files in the rempl folder. Is it safe to delete them?

Microsoft has yet to fix the KB4023057 update issues. This is what this update does:

I had the same issue. My system had the 2018-12 version of this KB and MS WU tried (three times) to replace it with the 2018-11 version. After uninstalling it from the programs and features list, it installed 2018-12 successfully and the next day WU auto updated it with the 2019-01 version. My system has 115 files in the rempl folder and they date back to when the 2018-12 version of the KB was installed. The last one is dated today. I'd leave them alone for now and hope that MS gets it's collective head unplugged and fixes the KB3023057 update.

yeah, it's reasonably normal. Every Defender update is KB2267602. Every Malicious Software Removal Tool update is KB890830. There were multiple KB4100347's for Intel Microcode.

It probably doesn't impact you much either way if you have the remediation service.

I didn't see any sort of appearances from 2018-11 after installing 2019-01. So, I'm thinking that the new update is gonna essentially be the fix here.

what? multiple updates with the same version number? If thats true MS is doing it wrong. wow. Is windows defender just broken on all of our systems. Or maybe they keep reinstalling the same definitions for security purposes routinely in case tampered with? Or is MS just too lazy to make new version numbers?

Oh and btw. KB4023057 hit my system yesterday also labeled as a January update. So tech support was right in just hiding the november one and waiting for fix. Wonder why that had to be reinstalled. Maybe they reneged it by accident with the latest cumulative update.

weird I never had a December one. Just a November and a January one as of the 17th.

And I use to have updates not appearing on my machine. So i'm glad they have been addressing those issues. Hasn't happened in a while.

Update: Some people are receiving the older update (2018-11) again and it is failing again - however if the older update (2018-11) is uninstalled as described in Post #1, it should resolve the issue. The new update is 2019-01.

And if you don't have the option to uninstall it from installed program list or apps and features. Hide the update with windows troubleshooter.
