Windows Update notifications & Action Center no longer (Group Policy)?

    Hi all!

For the spring update (1803) I had edited the group policy for Configure Automatic Updates to "2. Notify for Download and Auto install" with Group Policy Edit path Local > Computer > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Configure Automatic Updates (Enabled)

After updating to Windows autumn update (1809) this no longer seems to be working (= I do not receive Update notifications on Action Center). After searching the holy internet, seems that Action Center is pretty broken atm and that could of course have an impact.

Any info how to fix this (= get notifications on Windows updates)?

    BR,

Hi, I find that when setting that in group policy, if I go back to Settings, Windows Update, I find I can't run a manual scan- the symbol shows that updates are paused.

Simply setting the group policy back to Unconfigured does not reverse that.
Didn't have this problem before upgrading to 1809.

It is still possible to use a tool like Windows Update Minitool to scan for updates.

When I looked at this previously, I was eventually able to restore manual Windows Updates scan from Settings by using the Windows Update reset tutorial with all policies unconfigured.

For me the new updates where checked automatically (see image), but no notification into Action Center that there are new updates available. Seems Action Center is broken atm OR simply this group policy ain't working anymore...

Hi, did you have a look at the link I posted?

    Do you get any notifications?

    Hi,

I just did check, overlooked that for the 1st time. Seems that it fixes the Action Center notif. stuff only temporarily. Let's see if my Windows Update notifications start to re-appear.

Been following that (Windows Update notifications in Action Center) for the past 3 days > zero notifications from new available Windows Updates. In practise this means that either:

    a) the Group policy mod does not work in 1809 and/or
    b) Windows Action Center is "broken".

I do get Action Center notifications e.g. from new E-mail (Outlook) so it's not totally broken.

Windows updates are't released as frequently as that. However I do notice a significant difference in behaviour of 'Notify' in 1809 on this PC which I need to explore further and compare with that of another.

That said, in 1709 with Notify set, notifications for Defender updates appeared annoyingly frequently.
