Windows Update Showing error (0x80080005) randomly

I recently built my PC and have a fresh install of Windows 10 with all the recent updates.... over the past week or so I am noticing that I am getting error code (0x80080005) in Windows Update when I check for updates. The odd thing is that this is solved generally with a reboot and will function fine and then all of a sudden the error code returns.

A bit of Back Story... shortly after my first install of Windows 10 I ended up with a nasty case of Ransomware (I was a Mac user previously and didn't think the dangers were that much different) anyway I was forced to do a complete wipe of the System SSD and reinstall Windows 10 fresh. Its been working fine since and my AntiVirus programs (Defender, Malwarebytes, & Trend Micro Maximum Security) all have shown Zero Threats since (and I'm more careful) so I am not sure if that issue had something to do with the randomness of this one.

suggests the error number may occur where one of the OTHER drives has a problem.

Your specs don't say whether you have other drives installed.

Anyway, worth using Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - the best text summary of such programs I've seen- to check your disks. Failing that check SMART params and do a surface scan with something else.

I do and it’s interesting you say that because I am having an issue with a drive...

I have a total of 5 drives installed (2 1tb M.2, 1 8tb HDD, 1 750gb HDD and 1 250gb SSD) the 250gb SSD is showing as Not Initilized and every time I try to do so I get an error message saying it can’t happen... I just haven’t had a chance to deal with it or check it’s connections since I planned to basically use it as a scratch disk For Davinci Resolve and Premiere Pro mostly.

Think that could be the cause?

Definitely something to look at... unfortunately the error number won't be precise enough to tell you that- research using the wealth of experience either on this forum or elsewhere is usually better than trying to understand or make sense of the Windows Update logs - another thing you could look at.

Do use Hard Disk Sentinel (also supports SSDs) and see what it says. For example, in one case I recall it made a specific comment about cabling to one particular disk- which proved correct.
