Problems trying to updates Windows 10 Pro. Error code = 0x80070714

    Hi,

My machine is Windows 10 Pro, 64bit. Fully licensed.
I've checked for updates and I keep getting the error:

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 - Error 0x80070714

It verifies, downloads, installs, but fails towards the end. I rebooted my system and retried with no luck.
I also ran sfc /scannow. Verification came back successful. I ran troubleshooter for Windows Update, and it came back with 2 errors. One being a corrupted DB. I ran the fix, the first time it failed. I tried it again and it was successful. I tried to update once more but it failed near the end again.

    Does anybody have any ideas?

Hi, assuming you've > say 25Gb free on C: then first observe basic precautions- disable or uninstall security software, disconnect unnecessary peripherals, then try a manual update by downloading the 1809 iso.

Right click the iso, Mount, then click setup.exe in the new drive created.

Upgrade without accepting updates at the prompt for the simplest option to attempt this.

Also see e.g.TapiniSavu's post which helped some with that error number.
You can do further research on that error number.

    Hi,

Thanks. There is enough space. I have just done the exact same update on my other Windows PC (Identical OS) that I use as a bit of a server, and it worked perfectly fine. I run the same AV on both systems, both up to date. So one would assume there isn't a complication there.

I will attempt a manual update and see how that goes. The error code itself does not provide much feedback with a search around.

From the link I posted (if applicable in your case) which others found helped:

I've copied this for you in case you didn't read thru it..

    Instructions copied from that thread:

    1. Run MSCONFIG, click on the services tab and turn off each service that starts with "SQL Server" - Reboot

    2. Install upgrade

    3. Run MSCONFIG and turn on your "SQL Server" services back on- Reboot

    Enjoy

I can't take credit for this but I hope it helps someone.

    Hi,

Thanks! Disabling the 3 SQL entries I had, rebooting, then attempting again seem to have worked. Update installed successfully. I re-enabled the services and rebooted again and everything is fine.

    Thanks,

Make that 13! I've been having this problem for MONTHS! I literally tried every other solution out there. There were a couple that started with using "Password Troubleshooter" and end with editing the registry, renaming system directories, and re-registering DLLs. For the last one, they said something like "if the above didn't work, this WILL work" or "Back it up and do a full wipe, fresh install." None of the worked. It would ALWAYS die at about 80% during the installation phase. Every time. I then tried this fix without doing anything else, and worked like a charm! I went from 1909 to 20H2. Thank You!

So? Perhaps you need to state your problem in the normal manner in a new thread.
