No Longer Receiving Updates ... Is Microsoft Angry With Me?

Since the middle of December (2018) my computer has stopped receiving any Windows Updates aside from Windows Defender definition updates. Even when I sign in to my Administrators account to check for updates, I still cannot receive updates.

Up to this point I have never had any trouble obtaining updates, and I have not made any changes to my computer, neither hardware nor software, nor have I made any changes to my home network setup. I checked that my WiFi adapter is supported on Windows 10.

Here's what I've tried so far to continue receiving updates:

1- Disabled my anti-malware protection before checking for updates.
2- Ensured that I have no manual proxies, and that my LAN settings were set to 'Automatically detect settings.'
3- Ran the Windows Update troubleshooter.
    4- Ran the Network Troubleshooter.
5- Emptied the Software Distribution\Downloads folder.

It would be one thing if I was receiving updates that then failed to install. But I'm not even getting updates in the first place. I'll be grateful for any other suggestions of how to regain the ability to receive updates.

Have you tried downloading the latest ISO file of Windows 10 from Microsoft, mounting it, and running setup.exe from the mounted ISO file?

No, I'm not going to do a backup, clean install, setup Windows all over again, install and configure all my software and drivers all over again, test everything, and then restore my backup. I find it hard to believe there is no other solution.

That's fine. But nobody suggested you do that. I suggested you download the latest ISO file from Microsoft, mount it, and run setup.exe from it. That is not doing a clean install. That is doing the upgrade to the next major version (1809) of Windows 10 manually.

Umm.. there haven't BEEN any updates since the middle of december.. unless you mean Insider versions. The last Windows Update was released on December 18th for 1809.

What build do you have? The latest (Dec. 19) builds are 1803, 17134.472 and 1809, 17763.195. The next monthly update is not expected until Tuesday 8th January.

    My apologies ...

First, to NavyLCDR, for not understanding that the suggestion was to install the ISO as an upgrade rather than a clean install.

Second, to everyone, for not explaining that I normally defer feature updates for 60 days. Thus, I was anticipating to receive the October 2018 (v.1809) update by the end of December.

I still haven't received the update, even after setting my 'days to defer' to zero, and even after manually checking for the update over several days.

Yes, I could install the ISO as an upgrade, which will probably work, but it doesn't solve my problem - if it is, in fact, a problem - of why I haven't received v.1809 in the normal way.

I understand that Microsoft has a schedule for releasing feature updates, so maybe it's just not my time yet. Nevertheless, if not receiving the update is a sign of some problem I could fix, I'd like to try to fix it.

The most reliable way to try to fix it has been provided to you already in post #2.

There were many bug issues with the October 1809 release and many PC's haven't been updated yet as MS have delayed the roll out multiple times.
So if still on 1803 I wouldn't worry, just hang on until MS deem the 1809 release fit for your PC. I look after another machine that is still on 1803 and hasn't been offered any updates for quite a while.

If there is actually an issue then the in place MCT upgrade path that NavyLCDR has outlined is actually a good solution, it wont delete or change any apps/files et al if you choose that option.
I've done it in the past as an experiment, far quicker than automatic updates via the traditional windows update method.
There's undoubtedly a tutorial somewhere here on the forums outlining the whole procedure in detail.

    Hi, basic question:
Which Windows build are you using?
This can be really important, and most people don't mention it or include it in their specs.
    Windows key + R, winver

This was asked above and Bree has quoted two latest build numbers for you to compare. post #6

Further, if you then compare that with the News section here (you can search it for your build number) you can use the section to work out if you're due any updates. As it's organised by major build number as well, you can search by that (e.g. 1803, 1809...).

And as commented above, receiving 1809 by Windows Update has not been commonplace, and there are some MS blocks in place for particular technical reasons.
