Can't update Windows 10 - "Some settings are managed by your org."

    Hello guys.

Recently I've been having issues updating my Windows 10 machine.

Last night I successfully updated to version 1809, but this morning when I checked if there were any new updates available I received the following message:

Can't update Windows 10 - "Some settings are managed by your org."-annotation-2018-12-28-102321.jpg

I also have this message showing me that my feature updates are paused:

Can't update Windows 10 - "Some settings are managed by your org."-2.jpg

I have checked inside my Group Policy and no settings are configured. I did a GP reset just in case.

I also checked the registry settings and found the following:

Can't update Windows 10 - "Some settings are managed by your org."-3.jpg

When I try to change these registry settings, they do not apply. After I reboot my PC, they are restored to this again.

I am the administrator, this is a personal PC and I can not seem to be able to solve this.

Can someone on these forums help me?

If you need any more screenshots, information etc. please ask and I will happily provide.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, you may find you have feature updates (upgrades) deferred. I found the same as you- that updates are now deferred. I had a quick look around but couldn't see why.

I'm simply waiting until that date. Defender updates continue, and I can use Windows Update Minitool (free) in the meantime to scan for and apply updates.

Click on the 'View configured update policies' link you show for a list.

    Thank you for replying!

When I click there it shows a lot of things, but I never configured any of those, and they are not configured in the Group Policy or anywhere else I managed to check...

Mine are quite similar- before upgrading to 1809 I had Notify and Defer feature updates enabled, perhaps a couple of others.

You may like to try this group policy editor filter:

(Rt click highlighted item in left pane)

    Thank you!

I've turned everything back to "Not Configured", still the same policies remain active.

    Have you restarted?
And then cross-check using that filter

That's a lot of policies. I have just the two, they were the same before and after the upgrade from 1803 to 1809. But then I don't use any 3rd-party tools like WUMT, I imagine they would make it appear that more policies are in place, in particular the 'Specify target server to host updates' one.

As Dalchina says, it would be best to Restart after changing you policies to 'not configured'.

I did restart my PC, I do it for everything now since I bought an SSD

I will need to check this further when I come back from work and I will return with more details.

I've sometimes had such issues when the offending Group Policy item showed Not Configured. I toggled the setting from Not Configured to Configured then back to Not Configured and all was OK. Go figure.
