    Wish List

My wish list for Windows 10:
Get the update 1809 out NOW.
Have a better restore to an earlier time fixed so it works
    Fix the built-in full restore
Fix it so I can install my Office that I paid good money for. Don't give a damn that it is really old.

I am hoping others can add to this list and we can get Microsoft on the ball to fix some of the crap they have handed out to us.

    Windows 10 October 2018 Update version 1809 Now Re-Released - Windows 10 Forums
    - how to download link towards end of article

Have a better restore to an earlier time fixed so it works
    - use disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) )
    - use Rollback RX (free) - closer to what System Restore achieves

dalchina I did not think Microsoft recommended the manual install of 1809? Has anyone else update successfully using the manual update?

    Thank you for your reply.

Almost no one on the forum has received it via Windows Update.

If you check the restrictions in the relevant News thread, you can decide whether it is suitable for your PC.

I have just received 1809 via MU.

    Currently 68% downloaded.
That apparently was 'preparing' to install, NOT downloaded....that was 20 minutes ago...it has now actually downloaded 60%.

Will report back if any problems.

I got one computer Upgraded to Version 1809 Build 17763.1 the first day it was out then used the MCT to get the Bootable USB created and download the .iso for later. Then I got the Build 17763.55 update, all was fine and still good after .107 got installed followed by .134 then .168. I haven't had any problems with Version 1809 but my newest Desktop computer is just over 2 years old and all others, both Desktops and Notebooks are older to much older.

Most All software has a end of support date and compatibility with newer operating systems. It is just a software fact of life.

I don't have basic issues with Microsoft Office 2000 on the latest RTM version of Win10, Version 1809 Build 17763.194, even have it on a computer running the Insider Preview. I don't intend to use its Outlook as it may have the most problems based upon historical use [back with Outlook 97 and the replacement Outlook 98] and I'd guess Macros in Word and Excel may have issues but don't use them anyway. I did get the Compatibility Pack [for Office 2000 through Office 2003] for it to enable using the newer formats of Office 2007 and later of .docx and .xlsx.

Sorry for separate post, but for some reason I could not add text to my previous post. Seems to be working fine now. (new wireless keyboard & mouse).
Anyway, no problems so far, except the Windows Defender icon has decided to hide itself in the task bar. It was always visible prior to the update.
    NO 'missing folders'

There's a new 5.72gb 'Windows.old' folder, but as I'm not pushed for space, I'll let it delete itself after 30 days.
