If you run as inplace upgrade / repair it will do the update with the same results as a Window Update.

There are several blocks in place for 1809 and MS has recommended that you wait for it to be offered.

For sure I would image machines before attempting.

ALWAYS with an Upgrade be sure to have a second or third copy elsewhere of data you don't want to lose, that exists nowhere else. I prefer straight copying as I can access the data from a different computer.

Installing fro the .iso or Bootable USB drive that is obtained using the MCT/Media Creation Tool does have a prompt in the install process that asks if you want to save your programs and data or delete them. Just take time to read all the prompts. I've not had a problem doing it and have done over a dozen Desktops and Notebooks from Version 1803 to Version 1809 over the last couple of weeks.

Just loaded all 4 of my computers with the 1809 iso disk, had no problems at all. All seem to be running perfect, can't find any thing wrong. First time I did the update from a iso file, saves me a lot of data on my plan.
