Win 10 not activating with Win 8 key? Should this work?

Still no luck... Think I am going to have to install 8.1 again and do the upgrade. I spoke to someone from Microsoft and they told me I would need to upgrade using Win 10 version 1803. Do you know if this is true? If so where do I get that ISO from?

The Win 8 disc I have is from 2015 and so will have no updates and I won't be able to install any updates either due to my motherboard not supporting drivers for anything earlier than Win 10. Will this pose a problem upgrading to Win 10 or not?

    Hi,
So you installed 10 without bothering to save a system image of the install first on a different hdd

Well I got a new Motherboard, RAM and CPU, and did a fresh install of Win 8 as to not have issues with existing drivers etc. Didn't think about there not being any Win 8 drivers Will it not upgrade without current updates then?

It has never been true for previous versions, but 1809 has not been round long enough for anyone of TenForums to have tried it and reported yet. You can get an ISO of 1803 direct from Microsoft using this 3rd-party tool. It generates a link to get one direct from the MS servers.

If you can get a clean install of your 81 to activate without getting updates then ther's a good chance you can upgrade it to 10 without the updates too. Worth a try.

The error received was very specific. The Windows 8 product key has been blocked from online activation. It has to be activated by phone.

I am not sure if it will activate using slui 4 on Windows 10 or not. You can install Windows 8 just enough to activate it over the phone for sure. Then upgrade that Windows 8 to Windows 10. You do not need to update the Windows 8 and you don't even need to worry about installing hardware drivers. Only get it installed and activated over the phone.

So I wouldn't need internet access on that PC? As it won't have ethernet or wireless drivers. It can all be done over the phone?
