Motherboard power stage is fried: Can I still transfer my WIN 10 Pro?

So, My Laptop power stage got fried last night and now I am stuck with a dead PC, and no access to be able to deactivate the product key on the old laptop.
How do I go about transferring the win 10 Pro to another laptop please?

No need to deactivate... was that lappy a DL linked to MSA? NB: Only if the DL was attained via a retail key will transfer work anyway.

How was the fried laptop activated?

Thanks for the response. It was a win 7 laptop upgraded to win 10 Pro, and kept up to date.

Will I be able to transfer the win 10 Pro key for an upgraded PC?

I have in the meantime got hold of a similar laptop to try and see if I can swop batteries over to be able to breath some life into into it for a short period. Fortunately, I did a full backup the week before so I am not too concerned about data loss.

A similar laptop may even activate if it has the same motherboard./NIC etc.. but you are are stuck with that hardware if the original was OEM... you can't transfer it to completly different hardware even if you able to access your harddrive from that PC.

Okay so it turns out that the version of win 10 pro IS RETAIL.
There should be no reason therefor why I could not transfer this licence on to another PC that currently has win 10 Home OEM installed on it?
The licence I have is associated with my MS account.

Please confirm. I have been able to breather a bit of life into the PC by continually swopping over batteries between the fried PC and another working PC the same model. Must I first deactivate that licence on the fried PC.

If it's retail form a pre-DL it's all good... Was the Win 7 retail prior to upgrade? ( after upgrade everybody gets a generic retail key but the DL is from the upgrade licence... i.e. it's not the same)

It turns out these two machines had a bit of a chekered history before I got them.

Win 7 OEM, Upgraded to Windows XP retail licences, then had a business licensed version of win XP, after which when I got them, had the WIN XP retail licences restored.
I upgraded them from the Win XP to Win 10 Pro
They both have a generic Retail Licence, i.e. the numbers are identical.
