Windows Automatic Updates - stuck on Build 15063

Every few months my Toshiba Satellite L870-14X laptop fails to update. I leave it to run all night (usually for 10 hours), restart it a few times and then it "reverts back to previous build".

Should I be concerned? The main issue is the the laptop is out of action for so long. I can't bear the thought of a fresh install. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, simple things you can try:

1. First check your disk(s):
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) (includes SSDs)
(This gives exceptionally good text comments)
Post a screenshot of its GUI using the Insert Image icon above your post.
If all disks are reported as good, continue.

2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

Disable or uninstall any AV, security software. Disconnect unnecessary peripherals.

You may well find you have many many Recovery partitions on your disk.

Each failed attempt represents a BIG download.

History: as your build is so old, did you have the internet disconnected, or Windows update disabled for a long time?

I've tried the quickfix repair tool which said it had made some minor changes, so I'm going to try another upgrade and see if that does anything.

You are short of space on C: - only 14Gb free.

Windows.old will be created as part of the upgrade- as big as existing Windows folder. Best allow 25Gb free.

As and when you have dealt with that (try Wiztree (free) for graphic and tree of space usage, Disk clean-up (Properties sheet), Ccleaner (free) for starters), try again with no security programs running, and report any error number.
