how can I avoid windows updates

    Greetings
I rolled back to 1803 and received 2 updates causing a demand for activation that failed.
update to 1809 solves this problem but damages my HP printer and nothing I did helped besides returning to 1803.
I turned off everything I could in Settings --> update & security but I saw that windows prepared updates that I don't want. These updates leave me in 1803 but demand activation that fails.
Until MS solves its problems with HP I'd like to stay in 1803 build 17134.345.
    How can I do it?
    thank you

Do you want to hide specific updates or disable auto-updates?

The issue with the printer is more than likely to be a HP issue as it's not unusual for drivers to need to be updated to work with new releases of windows, all I can suggest is check the HP support site for the latest driver package for your printer.

Unfortunately once manufacturers have your money They are no so driven to provide updates quickly, so keep checking with HP as they are one of the better ones.

You could also try updating to 1809 and then removing the printer driver and let microsoft update with one of the generic drivers that HP supplies them with, This may not be perfect but should allow you to print until HP update their driver fully

Matthew Wai: to begin with all updates since I don't know which is dangerous for me. I also tried Windows Updates MiniTool.

Barman58: did that without success. I'm not sure it's HP problem. The best advice I found in HP forum after everything fails is to go back to 1803.
I'm waiting for a future update that will solve all problems.

about my initial problem: found the answers in the stickers of this department. Should have read it first. I preferred the registry option and I hope it will work.

    Thank you all

There might easily be a hundred opinions about the best way of avoiding automatic updates.

My own method works on my computers and is described in my post #73 in the TenForums thread Matthew has given you a link to.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Assuming you mean metered connection, see how it works at Windows now doing automatic updates over metered connection - Windows 10 Forums

I don't know what a metered connection is but I found 3 reg files in this section of windows updates up in the stickers.
The reg files are to enable, never notify and notify before downloading
but will also look in your link
    thank you
