My windows got randomly deactivated today for the first time in years

The only thing I did is update my adobe flash and my avast anti virus.

I used my key to activate my windows again and it worked.

However this is very disturbing. I've never had to do this before.

What can I do to ensure I don't have to do this again? Because we all know you can only activate or better said "rearm" your windows very few times before your key is turned invalid.

MS was having problems a week or so ago with activation servers which deactivated some licenses, but believe I read this applied to some Pro installations.

You PC apparently has Win 7...

"Rearm" is Win 7.. having said that, it would be nice to be able to "arm" ourselves against the flaky digital licence system... but no, control is out of our hands now

Not sure what you mean about "Is this over now?" tho.

There is a history of such things if you care to do a general search - which is often worth trying.

    E.g.
    Fix: Windows 10 Deactivated Itself - Appuals.com
Fix: Windows 10 Deactivated After Installing Updates

    I searched for
    windows 10 deactivated

    - please try that and you'll find more if you wish.

Hopefully all should be well now.

Please update your specs to show you're using Win 10, and the build. Will help when posting in the future- we so often have to ask what build people are using. (See my specs). Thanks!

    Hi there
If the key is valid and it obviously is in your case then I wouldn't worry --you won't run out of "Activations" - one can install Windows as many times as one wants on the same machine - even a non retail version .

Personally I wouldn't worry any more about that incident. I think once your W10 should now have a digital license.

    Cheers
