We are having a similar problem with our HP 5740 printer. We have tried printing on two computers with no joy.

I use an HP Officejet Pro 6230 Printer and it still works under 1809.
The first thing I would do is update the IP address. Go to the HP Printer Assistant > Utilities > Update IP Address, or check on the IP addresses.
If you have the HP Print and Scan Doctor installed it is also in those Utilities.
If the Printer has an internal Self test page try that as it won't need the Driver.
If the internal Printer self test does not work then you may have a hardware problem.
There is also an App in the MS Store "HP Smart".
The printer self test page works but it doesnt accept jobs from two different computers on the same network. So if there is a hardware problem it couldnt be at the computer's end.
I've not had problems with 2 HP printers over time, a LaserJet M26nw and an OfficeJet Pro 8600 with Win10 Versions of the past couple of years. They are connected as Network printers via Ethernet cable to my Router and any computer I install the software on, whether Wired or Wireless, can use them. Some versions of Win10 will automatically install sufficient drivers to make them usable including the Scanners on them. I currently have computers running Win10 Version 1809 and 1803 connected along with the Insider Preview 1809 and Linux Mint 19.
finally I rolled back to 1803 and my printer works as it always did
Now the question is how do I know which update I can safely take without damaging my printer?
How come Microsoft didn't issue a new update?
In HP forums rolling back to 1803 was the best advice I received but I'd like to be updated....
Thank you
