Windows 10 October Update.......

Just wondering, I installed the October Update when it was first released using Windows Update...They say it has now been re-released and has been fixed. I read that you could manually download it using the Update Assistant but when I try to do that it tells me immediately "Thanks for Updating Windows" and does nothing. I got a Cumulative Update yesterday on Patch Tuesday that took my version to 1809 (OS Build 17763.134). Am I going to have to do a clean install to get to the fixed build? I really do not want to go through all that......any info is appreciated.

No, relax. 17763.134 is the fixed build - doesn't make any difference how you got there. The cumulative update is just the same as a reinstall would be.

Thank you for the confirmation Bree. Honestly, I didn't have a single noticeable thing wrong with the original release of the October update that they pulled when I was running it. Updated now, and seems O.K.--but I didn't have anything wrong to notice any fixes in the Cumulative Update. I'm running on a nine year old system and figured I would have been one of the affected ones angry about some files missing.

Then I got to thinking when I was reading about the problems users were experiencing with the original release of the October update. Not only were they running the update on newer systems, but their systems were mainly used/built for gaming and browsing was a back seat to what their computers were originally designed or customized for.

To me, a computer was intended as a device that hooks up to the internet and you learn things by having instant access to things that you would normally have to get in your car to go see or learn about. Gaming consoles, on the other hand, were just that-----gaming consoles! I run emulators on mine so I can play old retro games, and haven't had a single problem. Graphics are fairly reasonable too!

Somewhere along the line, someone thought it would be profitable if the computer could be both a console and a internet device; and all of the sudden, incompatibility issues and all kinds of system file structures started to degrade ones system.

I'm rambling; but it just seems obvious and in our face everyday that gaming computers just don't handle the way my old classic computer handles the internet and no one wants to admit that it is a possible cause because their processor(s) are light years ahead of mine. Heck, I wouldn't want to admit it either if I just dropped four grand or more on a customized system.

I guarantee that if I were to go buy the latest and greatest computer right now that is available to consumers (not the fastest one in the world that resides in my state of Tennessee in Oak Ridge) that I would have instant problems I never usually have. Now why is that? I thought I covered it pretty much in this post to be honest.
