Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4467702) -Error 0x800703f1

Hi all,

Windows update has tried installing a new update every day for the past few weeks. Every time it fails and while it is doing so really slows my PC down. I could ignore it for a few more weeks but at some point I have to get it working so I tried tonight, to no avail.

What I have tried:

* Updating a few drivers which I thought may be problematic

* sfc /scannow - produces the following error: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

* Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - produces the following error: "Error: 1009 The configuration registry database is corrupt."

I have also tried the windows update diagnostic tool which says "the windows update database may be corrupt" or something similar and I have stopped the windows update, removed all files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and \download before restarting and trying again.

At this rate I am heading towards a clean install but that would take me out of action for about a day so I'm asking here if there's anything else that I can do before I go down that route?

That's interesting to know. I will probably just do that if nobody has any other suggestions rather than clean install now. It's not like I NEED the update now, it's just that at some point I'm going to need to get the updates back on track.

1) How about first downloading the whole thing from the Microsoft Update Catalog, then installing manually?

2) I would hide it with wushowhide in the meantime and hope it will be resolved in the near future.

I have been having problems with kb4467702 as well. Clean install and doing the few updates needed. It stuck at 37% for what seemed like forever. However eventually it just showed as pending download (not pending install like the other updates). Then it went back to downloading 37% again. I restarted thinking maybe when the other updates were installed it would finish (ie maybe not all of it is needed with other updates done) - but they don’t install on restart and still show as pending install while kb4467702 downloads. At one point the pc just shut down. Still stuck at 37%!

Nothing wrong with my install- it’s a clean one.

Have noticed it also breaks my WiFi connection and of course can’t download then. WiFi was fine before. I have installed it on other pc’s the last couple of days without issue.

I am thinking of trying the direct install - but will that be ok before the other updates? They’re all stuck at pending install

I don't know about Windows 10, but I never let Windows 7 auto-download updates. I always wait for update news, then get them directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install manually. The features and quality updates in Windows 7 can be downloaded separately, you see.

Maybe, you can try 3rd-party program, such as Windows Update Manager, which checks updates and download them for you.

Dur - just needed a stronger WiFi connection. Went to connect to Ethernet and as soon as I moved the pc nearer the router it sorted it. Takes ages to download and install but sorted now.
