Question Regarding the Win 10 Update Process

    Hello,

When downloading and installing a Win 10 update (in this case, Win 10 Cumulative Update KB4462919 for Version 1803), what is the sequence of events that are supposed to occur? To clarify, right now my computer is in the process of attempting to install this update and when I look at the real time status, it's going through this mini-sequence where it downloads the update, gives me a "Pending Install" status, starts installing it (where it usually gets up to 25 percent or so at which point it jumps to 100) and then repeats the process all over again (after spending some time with the "Initializing" status. Is this what it is supposed to do, or is it essentially caught in some kind of loop where it is downloading and installing the same part of the update over and over again. I would really appreciate some kind of guidance about this. Thanks.

Hi, that suggests it is failing in some way.

I would suggest you try installing it manually- you can download it from the links in the relevant article in the News section of this forum, where you can find an article per update per build, with download links after the text.

    Search for KB4462919.

However - some users attribute the widely known and acknowledged problems with 1803 with setting default associations to this update.

You should disconnect the internet once it is downloaded before trying to install it.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter (Settings, search 'trouble', click troubleshooting, scroll down to find it) and post the result.
