At Version 1511, How to pass up Infinite Updates & Get Latest V?

Just got internet service (for the poor) on laptop I've had 2 years. My version is 1511, so Windows Update is inundating me with endless updates - still at 1511! Not only is my internet slow, but I'm only allowed up to 150G a month. Please tell me how to STOP the updates & just download or procure the latest version.

The only choice I see (the only choice in 1511v?) is to uninstall the long list of updates, but I figure if I do that, Windows Update will just start all over again.

Please hurry with the most efficient & expedient solution - burning precious Gigs as we speak that I can't afford!

Right now, it's working on downloading the 2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB4041689). I was hoping to pass up all the updates it will take to get to the latest version, but realize it needs to build cumulatively.

It's just that yesterday it took ALL DAY to download just to 25%. So at this rate, it will be YEARS to accumulate to the latest version. Certainly there's a better way to get to the latest version.

This is another option that you can try:

Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB)
See if you can find a computer to use at a public library, work computer, friend or relative or neighbor's computer
Create a bootable Windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10
Download Windows 10 ISO File | Windows 10 Tutorials

Use the Windows 10 iso to perform an in place upgrade repair:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Windows 10 Tutorials

Elect to perform Windows updates after the upgrade is completed with the Windows 10 iso.

The updates should be shorter after installing Windows 10 1803 using the Windows 10 iso.

Thank you Z, I will try that. I also just noticed that all my applications were automatically being updated by the windows store, so I stopped all that. Hopefully, that will help my windows updates to go smoother & faster. So, I will wait until my cumulative update for 1511 finishes before trying your next step.

If you haven't already, you should set your network connection as metered so Windows limits how much it uses it, which is a little wider than just updates.
If you are using WiFi, this is how you would do it:

There's a way to set wired ethernet connections as metered too, although I think Option 1 will only work in a later version than 1511, so you may be limited to Option 2 at present.

Thanks to all who responded! My problem resolved itself, believe it or not. After I stopped all the windows store application updates, my cumulative 1511 update & download went a little faster. My intuition kept telling me to just chill instead of assuming the worst, so I chilled. As soon as the 1511 build finished downloading, when I restarted my PC - voila! - I was in the land of Oz - aka - April 2018 1803 version!

It only makes sense that Windows should bump me on up, so I'm soooo glad they did!
