Windows update is stuck

Hi,

I'm not receiving updates to windows 10 for weeks now whenever i run the windows update troubleshooter you can find https://support.microsoft.com/nl-be/...troubleshooter it keeps on reporting the same issues but never fixes them

also the "reset windows update batch file" you can find here does not fix the problem now what ?.

What updates are you expecting .... you are on 17763.55 which is the latest CU for V1809. The Version is on pause, there have been no CU's since it was update to .55

Do any updates for items like defender show that they are failing in Windows Update history.

Then why on earth is that troubleshooter reporting issues every time i run it also the usual "windows defender definition updates" are not coming in.

I found this in %windir%\System32\Catroot2\dberr file

Hi, if you've tried this without success
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

then you can try Tweaking.com's free repair tool, try limiting the options to, say,
3,4,16, 25,16

If still no joy, I think you'll need to do an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.

For that you will need either an iso or a bootable disk of the same base build and language as your existing build.
(If you use a later build, you will upgrade to that build instead).

hmmmm,

I did this

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
ren c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren c:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits

reboot after this and those errors are gone in dberr file however windows update says no updates available and the troubleshooter is still reporting the same issues this is confusing ....

Those are some of the steps in the bat file in the tutorial, so nothing new. You're just repeating some of what you've tried already, so is the outcome surprising? No.

I have made my suggestions- any reason not to follow them? Otherwise I'll have to leave you with it.

You can not rename catroot2, before taking ownership of it. Also "Cryptographic Services" have to be disabled and stopped. Once you rename the file, you can start the service and it will re-download certificates.

Firstly i remember you you helped me out before.Nope i have no reason to not follow your suggestions however i was hoping there was a more easy fix then an in place upgrade repair install but you're right the usual windows update reset techniques are not correcting my issue i'll do it your way .

Have you ever disabled updates by any method?

Just noted you have build 1809... which is on pause (withdrawn) given all the reported problems. You can find the latest update available here, which is what you have:

Notwithstanding that the troubleshooter really shouldn't fail.... hopefully.
But who knows- maybe it's a bug in 1809?

Another step you can try is a manual update.
Identify the KB# then enter it in the catalog.
Download and install the applicable update for x64 or x32.
If the update fails there is often an error code and/or message.
Sometimes the failure can be troubleshooted with the error code.
Alternatively it may be weeks for the re-release and then you may be able to perform an update.
If the failures continue then you may be able to use the iso when it is rereleased for an in place upgrade repair.
