Windows 10 Update Issues -- I am sick of this, and so are my customers

A couple of other things I would consider, give them instructions to set their connection to metered. Then when they are ready they can reset to unmetered, set power settings to never and allow the update to process in one uninterrupted process. Then reset and stay that way for another year. No one needs every feature update and for most the only reason they need a feature update is to stay supported.

I've also taken to sending out an email when the feature updates are released. I tell them to expect some sluggishness, be patient and never power off. If they have a concern call me and I usually can get them off the ledge.

I mention the power off as I seen a couple where the update seems to be doing nothing and getting impatient they have forced a power down.

I have 100's of clients and I see very few issues. the ones that have issues are ones that never had a clean install since the 7/8 upgrade. Others that do not turn on there computers more than a handful of times a month and use them for an hour and shut down (remember fast start does not shut them down fully) so I disable that but the feature updates reverse my changes.

3rd party AV programs are to blame as well. I only install Malwarebytes alongside defender. Many use optimising programs (registry cleaners) and that has the potential to bork windows as well.

Many have slow internet connections that I belive can cause some updates to get messed up as well.

The list goes on.

The ones that turn on, read mail turn off. I have to impress on them to leave on once a week and just walk away.

and spotty low speed rural internet. A 3GB+ file is just asking for issues.

I use syspectr (its free) to monitor my client's computers and I kinda of get an idea of their patterns of use. For example, at this moment only 43 out of 168 clients have the computer on.
Many just don't use the computers like they used to. It is so easy to use their phones ot tablets to keep up with email and facebook.

The only issues I see nowadays are drives going out(always for the most part replaced with an SSD). screens, keyboards, and PSU's after storms.
I had to close my retail location after 15 years because there are just not enough Windows computers having issues or being used on a regular basis to keep it open.

Does it present any security risks, eg., can someone else gain access, can they gain access through your system.

My insurance company was suggesting I needed Breach Insurance.

As I don't have access to my clients systems without specific real time authorization and I don't keep any data on them except name, phone and OS I said no thanks.

That said my clients will suffer a failure and say nothing, then another. It is not until the system is on its knees will they call and by then we all know what a mess it is.

They are based in Germany and Germany is supposed to have some of the best privacy laws.

They also have 2 factor available. I would play on your own system a while and get used to the options and features before you decide to deploy. During install just just dont check the icon on desktop except on your computer you access it on.
