    Win10 x64 update issues..... again

Recently I had to manually install a Windows 10 update because it wouldn't go past pending download. Today, I checked for updates and have 8 pending download, but are stuck again. I ran the troubleshooter and see this:

    Any suggestions?

I find that deleting the potentially corrupted contents of the C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder and rebuilding it from scratch works. Run command prompt and run each of these commands, in order -
    Net stop wuauserv

    Net stop cryptSvc

    Net stop bits

    Net stop msiserver
Now delete all the contents of SoftwareDistribution folder then restart WU by command prompt, then
    Net start wuauserv

    Net start cryptSvc

    Net start bits

    Net start msiserver
Immediately reboot, then run WU again

    - think the script file does that & more.

Or you could try the relevant repair in Tweaking.com's free repair tool.

I ran the script a few weeks ago in an attempt to clear a single update that was hung on pending download. I finally had to manually install the update. And now I have 8 pending download updates. I can try the script again... and will try that later tonight when I have a chance to work on it.

This laptop is about 6 months old and I clean installed Win 10 x64 Pro on it. No problems until the last few updates.

If they are failing to download, could be problems contacting the server.

    See e.g. Method 9

Once the troubleshooter result is clear, if downloading still fails, check your Windows Update logs for event ids and post the result.

I ran the script again, then tried the updates ... still see 8 updates pending download. No change after running the script.

Hi, repeating the last para of my last post:

Once the troubleshooter result is clear,Please run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check the result is clear (you don't refer to that but to the reset script)

if downloading still fails, check your Windows Update logs for event ids and post the result.
    - not the whole log, but your interpretation relating to download problems only. How to Find the Windows Update Log in Windows 10

If all else fails, try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.

For that you need an iso of the same build as your existing installation. (Freely downloadable)

As dalchina commented perform an in place upgrade repair.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Windows 10 Tutorials

An alternative is to start with:
    sfc /scannow
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess
    chkdsk /scan
When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

I ran the WU troubleshooter and it says it fixed a couple of things. (I've run it before to no avail). Maybe this time will be a charm.

I'll run the updater again and see what happens. I'll report back shortly.
