Always sign-in with a MSA even just once - it's just good practice - you never need to again unless hardware changes.
If you sign in just once to your Microsoft Account and immediately switch your sign in method back to a Local account is your Hardware ID-Digital License etc stored with your Microsoft Account for future comparisons by the Activation Servers if a future hardware change has to be made?

The reason Im asking you that is that I know when switch from Microsoft Account sign in to Local Account sign in the laptop is removed from your Microsoft Account online. Even though its removed is the Hardware ID and its link to your Digital license still valid if a future hardware change was needed..does it remember the details when you sign back into the Microsoft account?

The only future activation that would be affected is the one done right after the motherboard swap. Once that motherboard gets its Digital License it makes no difference what type of account you sign in with. Or what account even, you could use a totally new account and that device will still activate.
You seem to be saying if you were signed in with a Local Account and the motherboard was changed. You'd have to use the Product key given to you with the new motherboard and input it manually for the next Activation. But after that the Digital License would be confirmed. So the next Activation would go back to being Automatic? Have I got that right? As you can tell I like to be sure Im understanding correctly..and learning at the same time lol
You guys on here are superb by the way. Thanks guys

Last month, after a motherboard change, I failed to re-activate Windows via my Microsoft account but successfully did so via "slui 3".

Yes, you may have to use a product code if you logged in with a local account right after the motherboard swap. That would be a new license.
If you log in with your Microsoft account you can use the activation trouble shooter to transfer the license.
Either way, once that motherboard gets a Digital License its doesn't matter after that what account you use. Switching accounts or account types won't deactivate it.

The hardware ID is stored on the activation server, regardless or what account was in use when first activated. Or any further activation. The "linked too" is just an extra feature and not mandatory.

I did log in with my account and then used Activation Troubleshooter, but I could not transfer the license.

Nothings perfect. And I've personally never used it myself to try and transfer a license. I'm just going by the tutorials etc. And other posts saying it worked for them.

Yes it gets stored once you have the "Licence is linked to your Microsoft Account" thing in Settings. It does not show with local account as there is no way of knowing what's MSA it'slinked to...

Phewww .. now I'm getting a headache.. LOL
