Want to restart computer but update is pending and recent update was r

I would like to restart my computer but an update is pending and the recent update was reported to have been cancelled by Microsoft while they fix the widely-reported bug that caused some users to lose files. How can I tell Windows to restart without doing this update? Both restart and shutdown options have been replaced with "restart and update" and "shutdown and update".

Do you know if this is the 1809 feature update, or something else? Which update?

If you read the extensive thread, it seems your data would only be at risk if you have relocated the default library folders.

Of course, if you have or make a full backup, you should be safe. You do use disk imaging, I hope, as is so often recommended here.. e.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

This is the command to run when booted offline at a command prompt

    dism.exe /image:X:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

where X: is the drive letter of your Windows partition as seen from that prompt.

However I have no information on this in the context of a pending feature upgrade in particular.

This is supposed to revert all pending updates.

Or you could simply accept the update, reboot and uninstall it, and if it's a feature update 'Go back to the previous version'
