    Updating your system (100%)

Walked into the office to see a black screen and spinning wheel. Checked about 15 minutes later, and had the message mentioned in the title of this thread, with spinning wheel. There was a blinking hard drive light, not flickering but just slowily blinking, but there’s been nothing now for about 15 minutes. I don’t even know what update this is because...well...we have this screen.

Is this normal for the ‘October update’ to be taking a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time to install? At what point do I hard boot and hope I can get back into Windows?

Posting this from an ipad. I haven’t had a scary looking thing like this since I installed 10 on a laptop (not this one) running 8.1.

It’s been at least an hour, probably about 30-40 minutes with this non responsive stuck behaviour. I would like to know if it’s safe for me to attempt a hard shut down.

C’mon, guys, please? All I want to know is if this is normal for this particular update. Has this happened to anyone else?

The October update has been temporarily withdrawn. Both of my Windows 10 computers received an 1803 cumulative update, which required a restart, but installed without incident.

Ok, I just forced a shutdown. We’ll see what happens. Thanks, Ben.

I had no hard drive activity at all. I’m just trying to boot Windows now. At least the hard drive light is on.

Now Windows is saying It couldn’t complete the updates and it is undoing the changes, and don’t turn off your computer.

Not sure what the problem was. I don’t have third party security software installed.

At least this time the hard drive light is on.

Got my desktop back. Windows installed MSRT, but an update to 1803 failed to install. I just wanted to know if was normal for it to sit at 100% like that. I’ll try again another day. Or, knowing Windows, it will try for me.

Again, thank you for responding, Ben. I’m going to mark this solved.
