I rolled back to 1803. How often does Windows Update check for updates

Hi, How often does Windows Update normally check for updates?
Due to the 1809 problems I rolled back yesterday to 1803. As soon as 1803 was put back on my PC the latest Windows Defender update was also updated a couple of minutes later. Also a few other Windows Apps were also successfully updated at the same time. Ive just left Windows Update to do its own thing since 6 pm last night. Ive just checked again and no further updates at all have been done. This is unusual..theres usually at least a Windows Defender update. Ive just rechecked Update and Security and it still says.."You're up to date. Last checked yesterday at 6 pm"..which was immediately after the Roll Back to 1803. So according to that it hasn't checked for Windows Updates at all since.
I realise I can click on Check for Updates manually but Im trying to just let Windows Update do its own thing in case it manually tries to redownload the problematic 1809 again

Hi, you can view the scheduled task(s) for Windows Update if you launch the task scheduler; Microsoft, Windows, Windows Update.

By default, you could expect to be offered 1809 in due course- which may not be immediately.

    It's me, David again.

What is your ver 1803 build number ?
When I went back from 1809 to 1803, my build number was 17134.320.
Today, I checked for update and KB 4462919 was available. I installed it and the current 1803 build number is 17134.345

Users who are currently running version 1809 are getting a new update which brings their build number to 17763.55

For us who have reverted back to 1803 will have to wait. No 1809 update for us.

You can click the Check for Update to ease your mind. You won't get the "wrong" update doing that.

Hi David. It seems that with Build 1803 it can take 24 hours for Windows Update to check for Updates again. In my case 25 hours! Ive now got the same 1803 version as you 17134.345 but yesterday when I first rolled back kit was 17134.320 again identical to what you had so everything is fine now

What version of W10 do you have (Pro or Home)? On my Home system, WU checks every day; but only downloads "Important" updates. Non-security related updates will not auto update, but can be done by manually selecting the "Check for Updates" option on the Settings page.

I have Windows 10 Home edition. I wasn't aware that you had to manually check for updates anymore? I thought check for updates was just an optional thing now with Windows 10 meaning everything including non security related updates get downloaded automatically?

Occasionally non-essential updates are released to help with particular issues some may encounter. That doesn't mean you have to check manually, but they are available for manual update.

I would check Windows Update for any CU updates that were issued for 1803.

Did you experience any problems with 1809?

It's with all builds, not just 1803. Windows Update seems to check for updates roughly once a day, but...
The Windows Update Orchestrator on your PC checks the Microsoft Update server ... for new updates at random intervals. The randomization ensures that the Windows Update server isn't overloaded with requests all at the same time.
How Windows Update works | Microsoft Docs

1809 has been withdrawn, Windows Update will not find it, either by a manual or automatic check. It is safe to click 'Check for updates', you will not get 1809 again until Microsoft have fixed the issues and re-release it.

Your Store Apps are not updated by Windows Update but by the Store itself. This runs to its own independent schedule. You can turn off automatic updates of Store Apps in the Store's settings, if you wish.

If you don't check manually are those non-essential updates flagged up somehow or is it a case of if you don't manually check for updates ever then you just wont see them?
