Ok the HP Diagnostics Extensive Tests came out clean. I'll do the UEFI testing tonight. Post results tomorrow. After that I will be leaving Saturday for about a week. If we will find something I'll have to deal with it when I get back.

    The tests results all passed.
The diagnostics in the BIOS should complete the component tests.
Unfortunately the many troubleshooting steps , including an in place upgrade repair did not fix the failed updates.
The log files indicated a registry problem that is not fixed by the in place upgrade repair.
There is a Macrium backup image.
Windows 10 1809 is scheduled to be available sometime in October.
The steps to fix Windows can be done either when you return or when the new build is available.
Once the operating system is installed there will be Microsoft and some component manufacturer default drivers automatically installed.
Open the HP website > support and drivers > enter the product or serial number or model > select the operating system > download and install the HP support assistant.
Run the HP support assistant > download and install all drivers that it finds from the HP website.
After the HP support assistant has completed installing all drivers > view the HP webpage and install the software/firmware/drivers that may be useful that were not detected by the HP support assistant.
    Perform Windows updates.
Once you are satisfied with the computer environment (operating system, drivers, applications, files, etc. > make a brand new Macrium backup image > save to another drive or to the cloud.
And make a brand new restore point.

Hi zbook. I ran about 8 1/2 hours of HP UEFI diagnostic testing over night. Everything was listed as passed. I have no idea where they store the logs that prove that but it did pass. I'll be back next weekend and by then I should have decided whether to Factory restore or just wait for the 1809 version to come out.
Thank you very much for all the work you put into this issue. I am sincerely grateful. I feel bad for you that we couldn't get a better solution for all that effort you put up. But, I am sure that this whole thing may have helped someone else having similar problems. So its all good. Thank you again.

I just wanted to let you know that after the factory reset via HP software, Windows Update seems to be working fine. I have to think that things got hosed up along the way by trying to:
    1) remove spying features/telemetry from Windows 10
    2) trying to remove MS OneDrive
    3) Using my Reg Cleaner (Ccleaner) regularly
    4) Having some bad shutdowns during power outages

Then again I/we may never really know. Either way, I am grateful for the time and effort that was given to me while trying to solve the problem. Thank you.

Maybe there are some clues in this output.
    Hi, my friend !
Did you find explanation and solution for those ACL errors?
I have problems with WU and this script brought me to the same erroneous ACL.
