Windows Update fails with Error 0x80070015

Perform an in place upgrade repair with a Windows 10 iso.

Then look for error messages and codes.

Download and install Everything: Everything - voidtools
Search for:

C:\Windows\Panther
setuperr.log
setupact.log
Setupmem.dmp
setupapi.dev.log
BlueBox.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback
$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp
$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log
$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx
$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\UnattendGC

For any log files that are found using everything > zip > post share links into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

For any of the found files make sure that they are dated 9/26/2018 or 9/27/2018.

Run the Inplace Upgrade Repair again? Perhaps I didn't post that I had done this step. If you want to do it again I most certainly will.
There already is a C:\Windows\Panther folder. Upon searching for some of those log files, I found many copies of log files with the same name. The two I found within the Panther folder are : setuperr.log, setupact.log. There are more copies of these filenames but in different subfolders within the Panther folder.

Yeah I just went back and looked. I didn't really say I did the Inplace Upgrade Repair. In post #25 I said I was moving onto that step but didn'y actually say I did it. But I did.

Failed to download updates. hr = 0x80004005

Unspecified error



The Windows update errors were all: 0x80070015

The device is not ready



1) Run the beta log collector and post a new zip into the thread:

2) Open device manager > click view > show hidden devices > manually expand all rows > look for any row displaying a yellow triangle with black exclamation mark or unknown device > post an image into the thread

3) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

4) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)


5) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

6) shutdown /r
(this will place the computer in clean boot)

7) Uninstall Malwarebytes

8) Remove all unnecessary hardware (printers, drives, USB devices, Bluetooth devices, )

9) Perform an in place upgrade repair after the above steps > look for a new error code and message > post new panther logs into the thread

Here is the Beta Log collector results:

The logs displayed that Kaspersky is still installed.

Were you able to run the Kaspersky uninstall tool?

The in place upgrade repair should not be performed until Kaspersky is uninstalled.

Got all the way to step 7 and got an error trying to uninstall Malwarebytes.
The error reads:
Runtime Error (at 407:201):
Access Violation at address 7268C542 in module 'suhlpr.dll'.
Read of address 00000000.

I can't get rid of Malwarebytes through normal means. Is there another way to uninstall this program?

What happened with Kaspersky?

I uninstalled Kaspersky when you told me to the other day but I forgot about Kaspersky Secure Connection(vpn). Its an add-on from Kaspersky. Now I just got rid of that. However, I need to restart to finish the removal.
Got rid of Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Secure Connection. Restarting.

Disconnected everything I could find also.
Oh, should I do the shutdown /r command or just restart normally
