Is there a way to disable only major Windows updates permanently?

I am fine with the small updates such as the KB***** ones.

But I don't want the large ones such as the one coming in October 2018, Redstone 5.

Is there a way to disable only these large updates?

Windows shamelessly restarts computers for updates if it's kept idle.

I don't have the answer to permanently disable major Windows Updates but I am interested in advice & opinions,
    However I ask, why?

I'm not in the computer business but where I volunteer I'm asked similar questions not only on WU's but also about other "uses" that should be kept up to date.

I believe that a computer should be allowed to run as normal as designed.
Naturally there are times when something goes wrong but that is what needs to be addressed.
I don't see where it's easier to keep things "behind" compared to let the computer run as naturally as possible.

Now running as naturally as possible can mean there are computers that need special attention on what that means and that's why I'm am interested in advice & opinions.

See this post: Stop Windows 10 Updates Properly and Completely Solved - Windows 10 Forums. You can use the WUMT wrapper script and WUMT to manage updates entirely under your own control, if that's how you want things.

Do keep in mind that the "minor" Build updates always apply to the "major" Version Upgrades. In other words what applies to Version 1803 won't necessarily apply to Version 1709 or earlier so skipping the major may not work.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that all the things you are concerned about do carry a KB number, it's a Knowledge Base item.

A simple way is to install OS in a virtual hard drive. You get the normal cumulative updates but cannot get build upgrades when booting vhd natively from host pc.

    - do you have Active Hours set (in Settings?)

If you paid MS more - for Pro- you'd have a lot more control over updates.
