    2018-08 Cumulative Update for W10 V 1803 x64-based KB4343909

Having used Windows 10 (quite happily) since its inception on this computer, I have just had a series of repeated update failures as follows:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: 2018-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4343909).

It tries, fails, waits to undo the changes and then a few days later repeats.

I'm not a "power user" and have searched for solutions online but most involve things I'm afraid to do or suggest downloading some other software that I am loathe to trust.

Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated!! Thanks!

For starters, it would probably help if you posted a screen shot of what you see in Windows Disk Management, so we can see your partitions and their sizes.

Hope I have done this correctly so you can see it!

Still trying and failing, now twice daily

Attached is a screenshot of the reporting events log that shows the failure. I read on another forum post that I could look at Windows - Software Distribution - Download and I have done that but there seems to be no matches that I could delete if the download file was somehow corrupted.

Hope this will help. It's taking a lot of my time away as Windows keeps trying and failing now more frequently.

    Thanks

    Hi try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

then manually download the update from here:
    Cumulative Update KB4343909 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.228 - Aug. 14 - Windows 10 Forums

    and retry.

    If it still fails, try
    SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command or powershell prompt and post the summary outcome.

Thanks dalchina, and to shawn too for the .bat file. Everything went well ... until it cratered in the usual way again. The .bat file worked fine, the update downloaded and installer started okay But then got hung for a very long time during one of the restarts and the usual "We couldn't ..." came up. I ran the scan (no problems found) and have attached a screenshot of this along with some system logs (not sure how I found these but perhaps they are helpful). Should I re-run the .bat program and restart and then let Windows try on its own again? Seems to be a huge update with many features that I don't use but imagine it is not possible to pick the bits that seem useful and skip the rest. The biggest irritant is the time this cycling is wasting. Computer working fine, at least until now! Any ideas? Many thanks!!

Hi, Some suggest the error message indicates problems contacting the server- you've manually downloaded the update, so it's not that. Others mention the size of the Recovery partition- but that's in the context of upgrading. However it's true your Recovery partition looks small, though why it could be significant for this update would seem obscure.

For normal use of your PC you could choose to hide this update (see relevant tutorial in the Tutorial section) to stop the recurrent attempts.

Thanks! I will try to hide the update once I see it. I have gone through the tutorial and it seems to do what I need to do. I will post a full reply once I have gone through this. Looks to be exactly what I need, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Looking at your Update History it look as though the initial upgrade to 1803 was successful; you could expect the next to be large

    .

Whilst you can hide the update, any NEXT update will be at least as large. However, the next feature update is about a month away (but for any given user could be, say within the following 2 months).

Noted SFC /SCANNOW passed; I would be willing to guess that if you were to create 500Mb of unallocated space on your disk for a new Recovery partition, that might help with this update, but would certainly be necessary for the next upgrade. You could do that with Minitool Partition Wizard. Don't try it with Disk Management.

The other thing to do is to look at any update logs there are.

Thanks! Have downloaded the free version of the tool and will try this some quiet evening this week. Need to do a double backup first just to be sure but sounds good, or at least hopeful! I will post the results when done. Thank you again for your patience!
