1803 is giving me trouble as well. When the 1803 update came out, it was installing and froze at 54%. I forget exactly what I had to do to get the computer started, but I tried to install 1803 again. As before, the install froze at 54% and this time the only thing I got my computer to do is display a blue screen (BSOD). I called Dell and they said it was Windows and they couldn't do much about it. Very helpful. So, I ordered an Intel 1TB Solid State drive and a brand new copy of Windows 10 Pro. I installed the drive and installed Windows 10 Pro without a hitch. Immediately, my computer started to update. I felt really confident everything would be fine. So much for feelings, 1803 locks up at 42% now, but when I restart the computer it just installs the old version of Windows 10 I have with everything intact. I really don't get it.

    Hi, several comments:
    1. as your problem isn't directly relevant to this thread's title, and raises different issues, you should post your own separate thread under an appropriate title as two different problems can't be handled in the same thread, and so as to attract appropriate attention.

    2. As you already had a copy of and rights to Win 10, you didn't need to buy a new copy. One exception would be upgrading from Home to Pro, which I think is not as much as buying a new Pro license. Note that once you have had Win 10 on your PC you can clean install as often as you like.

Assuming you mean you clean installed, but restarting somehow recreates a previous build, I suspect you didn't properly clean install.

You bought a new drive, so I hope you didn't leave the old one in when you did your new installation.

I suggest you make sure you have only your new SSD in, that AHCI is enabled (for better SSD performance) and you clean install UEFI/ GPT format - assuming your PC supports UEFI.

This procedure requires that you delete all existing Windows partitions, and install to unallocated space.
Keep your old disk out of the PC or disconnected in case you need to recover anything from it, or erase all Windows partitions on it before reusing it.

I suggest you attempt a true clean install, then create a new thread if you have problems.

Note that some older PCs may encounter issues with later drivers as each Windows build may provide different drivers to the previous one.

Hi again! Hope we can close this thing soon as I am taking too much of your time! I have run the minitools program and extended the two :* partitions labelled as Recovery Partition. Idiot that I am I forgot to take a screenshot before the extensions but both were small and had a total of about 500 MB unused. As I keep most of the data on external drives, there was plenty of space available on C: so I extended the recovery partitions. Screenshot attached. Hope this was the correct interpretation of your note.

I will see over the net few days what happens with the KB4343909 update.
    Thanks!

Hi, and Happy New Year! Just posting to say that nothing has changed except I have restricted the update hours to the night shift and I need only to remember to turn the beast on in the morning to greet the latest failure advice! Here are some screenshots ... so far nothing has improved but it's not severely worrying. Just hope that the computer will not finally fail from all the UN-DOs! It must be getting sick of this too!2018-08 Cumulative Update for W10 V 1803 x64-based KB4343909-dm14jan2019.jpg2018-08 Cumulative Update for W10 V 1803 x64-based KB4343909-winupdate19jan2019.jpg2018-08 Cumulative Update for W10 V 1803 x64-based KB4343909-updatehistory01jan2019.jpg
